Aunty Ma'iki was my kumu and her teachings and influence in my life made me a better person. I was a haole from Canada who moved to Hawai'i because I wanted to learn everything about the Hawaiian culture. Ma'iki made that experience so very, very special. I still miss her dearly but she would be happy to know that I still continue to dance hula every day...because HULA is life.
I never met her, but living in No. California, I have studied hula with several of her students who became Kumu. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from her manao. I love Mapuana de Silva. Her smile is a permanent part of her hula. Mahalo
