Out of North Minneapolis, MINNESOTA (612) Joshua Gillespie (Brotha Asè) was brought up within an Ancient Griot practice known as The Art of Oral Storytelling. The Griots were responsible for knowing the history of their community, the stories of their people, and the wisdom from times immemorial to be shared to motivate, inspire, and protect our communities.
Witnessing his family Elders GrandMaster Storytellers - Vusumuzi Zulu & Nothando Zulu on and off the stage his whole life - inspired him to carry on the tradition. It’s not practice, it’s lifestyle.
As an up and coming ‘Jaliya’ - He uses his artistic abilities - Digital Art, Music, Dance, Djembe Drumming & Oral Experimentation - to captivate to inspire others to take up the practice for their home communities. which will all be displayed via TH-cam.
Ase believes our stories are like seeds from the divine tree of life, helping to guide us and grow us into divine trees of our own.
