Nice video. I couldn't make this 4th race 😢. Good info on the tires. I'm waiting on my new checkmate slr8. First year back racing (20 years), now I'm all in for next year. Good stuff
@@JohnPerales That’s awesome, i’ll see you at the races next year
I've been loving the videos showcasing the local races, trying to build my confidence and do some next year. also you should definitely add a strava file to these posts or something, would love to see what kinda effort it takes to do these races
Good idea, I'll do that for next year's videos. You can look me up on Strava as my name. I used to do more power overlays on the video but that feature is broken in garmin virb editing software now. For these longer gravel races this year I was around 240-250w NP avg for the full race, I'm 78 kg.
@@aarondeutchman3212 Hopefully they fix that feature soon, because that would be neat to have in the videos. And that is useful info, and quite immpressive, good work!!! Keep up the videos!!
Yellow velotoze guy here - I wish I could blame my tires hahaha. I was absolutely dying from cramps when you passed me. I ended up closing that gap to the group at mile 25 but dropped my chain at 40 and couldn’t catch back on. Last 25 or so miles were brutal.
@@isakmassman2056 ok yeah cramps make sense on that course. I was an idiot not getting on your wheel when you chased back to the group. You were in the headwind alone then is brutal. I was in group of 3 most of that. I need a good bit more watts to stick with you longer, time for some good training all winter.
@@aarondeutchman3212 Would have been very nice to sit behind you and your aero bars. Less than 5 months until Hell of the Wind 25 so get working!
Well done. Was curious what size that front chainring is?
@@00mustangwolf00 42t on the front, seems to work great with the 10-46 cassette, spend the most time around the 19 and 17t right in the middle, spins out above 30 mph and still good on the hills
Sweet bike and good race! Just subscribed. As a novice gravel/mtb racer (at 55 yrs old), I have a 24' SL5 (Checkpoint) that I really like but hoping to upgrade the group set at some point.
This frame is fast and really great for 45-50mm tires but I definitely envy the tire clearance you have on the checkpoint. The sram groupsets are very nice nowadays, love having no problems with this one.

Ah lovely road. I wish I had some spaces like that where I live. BTW, I must confess i´m impressed by that guy Nigel, he did great on a singlespeed, I never tought of that as a gravel option.
Those single-speeders are nutso! I barely get by with my 2X12. lol
Yeah ss on those big hills is crazy, he was very strong for sure, I don’t think my knees could handle it
Where is this?
@@BlakeStewart-q4g Beardstown IL. Its on bikereg.com and fb if you look up pumpkin hop. Great event due to the race director.
Looks like an absolute mega event 👌💪
@@SwimBikeRunStu definitely, mega fun course, everyone should do it
Hey Aaron, thanks for posting these every year!!
@@138Scratch no problem! Except there won’t be any this year, no chicago cross for me unfortunately, taking a break and too much other stuff going on.
This is the best gravel video on the internet. Where is this
@@burronorteno colesburg is in the driftless area of iowa. Has as much climbing per mile as steamboat gravel but without the altitude pain. The roads are so scenic, constantly winding and almost never flat. I failed to get the stream crossing on camera, I got a nice splash from another rider felt great.
This is bad ass footage
I’m not sure if you a lot a
Attacking us in the required stop and check-in feed-zone... begin the debate! 😆 Good group out there! Made those long hills a lot less painful.
You were too strong out there, had to play dirty, nice riding with you!
@@aarondeutchman3212 that shot of me bombing by you in the woods was awesome! Conti Race King 2.2 Afterburners!
Thank you!, this pairs really well with the Chequamagon Rouvy map 2022. Your passing , the speed, and the riders cadences are very motivating . That poor guy with the broken spoke! ❤
Wow, that is an exotic ride. Cool bike.
Yep, cramped about 2miles out as well. Was a little nervous about the finish hill...
I was in that race
Great riding with you out there!
Super cool! Im glad you got footage of the Joetown woods, I was not sure how to explain that part of the route. Fun race!
Great footage, and great race, Aaron. "rode it in solo for 6th place" is a very kind way of saying: "I caught the big rider and he stuck with me for the last couple miles and tried a really poor, dumb, sprint attempt into a headwind that gave me a great draft to sit in effortlessly."
Ha, it took a long time and a lot of work to catch up to you in all those hills in the wind. You go up them plenty well.
Thank you. I'm thrilled with how long i was able to stick with the lead group and that I was able to hold in such a good finishing position.
Who was in the GCN kit?
Not sure but I think they finished in the top 5 somewhere
GO DANIMAL!
Danimal is quite the beast
If you guys would have slowed down a bit, I could have gotten more screen time
@@brianritter9379My bad, just let me know next time that you need some time on camera ha
Great race video - we have a grass crit type cyclocross race Sunday in Seattle. What tires did you use?
Maxxis all terrane, not the fastest tire but lets you do most anything you want in corners and works for all conditions. Good luck at your race.
I switched over to the Challenge tire line in general... hand made and 320 tpi for the team iddition
00:20:30 What an unique dismount....
Good catch, that’s a step through dismount, right foot forward of left instead of behind
Agreed.... looks like it would be dangerous if something goes wrong.
Awesome. Especially the single track. Thanks 🤘🤘
Muy buenos tus videos amigo, se ve que hay un buen nivel.
Great video!! What do you use to show your location on the course? How did you blend the video with that? Again, nice to see the race from this view
Garmin virb software, pretty much what everyone uses, its a pain to get data synced up to the video. Theres a bunch of youtube guides on how to do it, like from norcal cycling
Wow,, amazing track, nice ride 👌🚴
Makes me miss the Midwest! Nicely done!!!
Thanks, where are you at now and how does the mtbing compare?
@@aarondeutchman3212 A bit south of Denver, CO. GHS, one of the the trail fairies at Scott, is my brother-in-law.
My chain 😢
Excellent video, great for the days I’m stuck inside on the airdyne.
I’m there with you, starting indoor riding now. Next year I’ll use the newest gopro, it’ll look alot better.
Nice ride, my friend got third in that race.
Good to hear. This one was pretty terrible for me but thats fine, gotta have one of those every so often
Good start, until you got passed by the entire field going off road too early.....You would have placed 30 places higher.....
Yep, been 5 years since I did this race so wasn’t expecting to stay on road longer, gives me plenty of room for improvement for next time
@@aarondeutchman3212 Also, there's a big opportunity to go a lot faster on the road at the start.... I'll see you there next year after watching this Comeback 4.0 may actually start.....smile emoji
Sorry I had to stop watching it was shaking to much try putting it on your chest it would be a little bit more stable was almost making me dizzy .
Yeah its shaky because it is from a hero 3. I have a hero 11 now so new videos will be much better. Pumpkin hop cx is first race with that new Gopro but I still have multiple things to fix on settings and editing that’ll improve the quality.
Yes! Nice race man, I'm the guy in the black n gold kit that says "Aurora" on the butt.
Wipe your camera off every now and then lol !
Appreciate you posting this. Love the little map overlay 🤙
how do you get 2:40 minutes on your go pro, most I can record is 2 hoours with a full battery, even the new one says max is 2 hours, i need to know your trick.
The trick is its a hero 3 with an aftermarket extended battery that lasts 4-5 hours on 1080p at 24 fps. Later on gopro prevented aftermarket batteries and they don’t make a large extended life battery. I want a newer gopro but yeah the battery life is terrible on them. The bad quality and shaky image are quite a downside to using the hero 3 though.
Nice video!
Thanks for posting, a bunch of friends and I are all in there at different points.
Awesome, thanks for the wheels to follow
