Maybe the greatness of Scholes is that the whole team ticked with him in it. I get the point Gerrard had more individual, spectacular moments and dragged Liverpool on his own at times but I think that overlooks Scholes' greatest contribution was making the whole team play, season after season. Not all those united teams were great. Maybe Scholes in a LP shirt makes every player 5% better, so you don't need Gerrard to do it all on his own. Scholes for me. Not a united fan.

My main take from this is when Jamie says Man Utd had 4 or 5 match winners, where as Liverpool had Gerrard, and they relied on Gerrard. If he was playing for Man Utd he might not have looked as outstanding.

Scholes was world class. Gerrard was generational.

Gerrard was similar to Bryan Robson - all action midfielder. Individually, Robson is a United legend. But we only started winning the league when he was no longer a starter. We were overall better without him than with him.

Gerrard couldn't have done half of what Scholes could do in a two -man midfield where his freedom would be curtailed. StevenG was more fantastic as a leader but not a technically better olayer than Scholes; never. Gerrard can barely keep tge ball without a one two passing move, not able to receive the ball in tight spaces and wiggle out hus way or produce the critical defence splitting passes as much as Scholes. Gerrard is all about playing with the heart whike Scholes does more with the brain. Carrager talking about Gerrard in rught back and all that makes no point, he is a midfielder. Hold on though. If you put Scholes in Liverpool's team, then you would build a different style of play around him. And that style of play with more ball control in the center of the pitch would mean better defending and more opportunities for your forward players. Could Scholes do what Gerrard did? No, but Gerrard couldn't do what Scholes did either.

Both superb players... but scholsey played in a team full of creative players and still stood out... whereas stevie played in a team where he was the only shining light... so everything went through him... It's easier to stand out when you are the only creative light. Personally I think both had different abilities... and both were equally brilliant but in different ways... both legends for club and country ... but for country Scholes was played out of position... can you imagine Spain telling Inesta to play deep and on the left.. just shackling his talents... Scholes should have been the midfield dictator in the middle of the park for England and let Stevie and Lamps run off him.

Gerrard will win you games, Scholes will win you leagues and its to do with their style of play. Scholes can dictate a game from start to finish and thats a better ability to have over a period of time but in a final or a massive game i'll pick Gerrard cause he can just put everyone on his back and carry you over the line

As a player Stevie had everything. Only when you stop and think about it you realise, hey, hang on, he was 5 or 6 players in one. When you look at the best Klopp team ever, Salah is the record breaker, on pens, but not free kicks and corners, Trent is on freekicks and corners but not pens, Virg is the dressing room and on field presence, Alisson gets us out of sticky situations, when you look at Gerrard he is all of them and more. Gerrard took corners, pens and free kicks, captain, made tackles, made crazy long range passes, instinctive finisher, scored important goals, scouser in the team. Sometimes you forget how good Stevie's decision making was, his finishing is so underrated, even his outside of the box goals, it's not like he was looking for space, couldn't find it so took a shot, he hammered them first time a lot of the time. When 1v1 with the keeper his composure and finish selection was striker level. Even when you look at Suarez, some his goals you're like why did he hit it, how did he possibly know it was going to go in? Well, you would have said the same thing first about Gerrard's Middlesbrough goal. Gerrard lives in all of our best players, whether it's skill or mentality, Gerrard's pure talent, hardwork and desire makes him a colossus, you don't find so many winning attributes in ONE player. End of the day if you trade places with Scholes or Lampard, he wins the same trophies as them, maybe 1 or 2 more. Other way around, none of them win the Champions League or FA cup in that Liverpool team, but I think it's credit to all 3 that they're always compared to each other, the real tragedy is how they never won the world cup.
