when sandy failed to do the family whistle due to her lost tooth and spongebob started reaching his hand into his mouth to whistle, I swear to god I thought the movie was going to make a big emotional deal out of spongebob pulling out his own signature buck teeth to give to sandy so she could do the whistle

I'm glad you guys talked about this, I watched it pretty much as soon as it dropped and I was amazed at how much worse it was than I thought it would be

I genuinely don’t know how to feel about this film because it just made me feel sad when I watched it. The current SpongeBob crew are so much better than what this movie makes them out to be. Even if I have problems with some of the decisions they’ve made (like Kamp Koral or some weaker new episodes). They’re capable of making fun exaggerated cartoons in a time where that sense of whimsey is desperately needed in the animation industry. This movie is both cookie-cutter and dull in its humor and execution yet it has a fun, stupid premise that it never uses to its full advantage. SpongeBob still has some life that it is is clinging onto, like I personally think most of the Patrick Show is great but this movie just shows the franchise’s age.

I have a middle segment suggestion. Near the end of each season you all work together and think up a “new” episode, but one that’d be from the season you’ve been talking about. Like, a season one episode that’s semi-liminal, a season thirteen episode with weird character returns, that sort of thing

The person who directed the Patrick Show ep (Ian Vasquez) that canonized the idea that Patrick used to live in Ukulele Bottom is a major SpongeBob super fan who constantly puts extremely obscure references and older unknown incidentals in a lot of his episodes. The Season 1 Bikini Bottom Flower Arch also appears in that episode and he explained that due to the show being a prequel to the og series that the flower arch was originally made for some kind of event and was taken down years later. So there is at least one person on staff who cares a lot about the SB canon.

I watch every episode with Liv and i gotta say Sandy's Rocket is probably the worst episode so far. I just found it kinda miserable and lacking in even one good joke and its entire concept is just confusing and inconsistent.

We will never forget the weird period of time where the SpongeBob Fandom wiki tracked every episode on a timeline, if for no other reason than 99% of episodes just kinda said "This episode takes place after Help Wanted. This episode takes place before the SpongeBob Movie and that part of SB-129." And they'd re-iterate this *every time,* which got extremely funny after awhile. jellyfish jam is the tandy sbemail of season 1 spongebob, like it just kinda has that vibe of an "inoffensive but completely superfluous" type of 2/7 experience
