Montie Adkins Books

เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 29 พ.ย. 2009
Full name: Montie Adkins Jr. I am 52 years old and decided to start this booktube channel to put myself out into the world. My primary reading consists of scifi and fantasy though of my 1,000+ books around 80 of them are non-fiction science books.
My intention is to make you envious of my success and make you hang on my every word. OH, I mean, meet new people and exchange ideas and opinions and entertain you as you entertain me.
I am unmarried and I'm like 99% sure I have no kids.
If life remains basically the same I may retire in 10 to 15 years and have a vague plan to move onto a sailboat, head up the St Lawrence and down the east cost and Florida and run around the Caribbean.

I doubt you are sitting by ready to respond, but here is an issue i have on your site...when I hit the "Like" as I always do, often it will highlight it in black but remain at zero...and of i refresh etc it will still show it at zero (or whatever number it was when I hit it. This doesn't seem to happen with other channels. I am not complaining, but rather letting you know that you may be getting more "Likes" than it indicates.
I just did it and it did the same thing. Every so often I have left comments on people's vids and they never show up and I have to make multiple attempts. Sometimes I have to wait until the next day. Thanks for pointing it out.
@@Montie-Adkins I was having that same comment issue a lot but I got a new laptop a few months back & that seemed to solve that issue. At any rate, just thought you should know you may be getting more support than you know !
I think this is a great tag with all the clever links to the Tour de France. Some interesting choices for answer. Food for thought. The never shrinking tbr. Happy reading.
This one sounds fantastic! I havnt read anything other than Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky. I will add this to my wishlist!
Yay!
I love this novella. And something I didn't really realize until I watched your video is it really makes you appreciate how special it is when you actually find a book that you connect with in real life. So thanks for really emphasizing the scope of the predicament in the book!
It's become a go to recommendation for me. Just too good and too mind bending. Thanks for watching, I do appreciate it.
Love the shirt!
Thanks for doing the tag - enjoyed your answers- good shout on the 2001, and I’ve made a note to keep an eye out for “Short Stay in Hell”.
You won't regret that one. It has become a favorite recommendation.
Just found the channel, and immediately picked up Seasons of Albadone. Always happy to hear about books that are hidden gems. Some friendly feedback on your production value. Please mute the TV and/or choose somewhere quiet to record. Audio is very important for videos and you'll definitely lose potential viewers if the TV is just randomly playing in the background.
I usually mute the tv but I have forgotten a couple of times. At some point I'll splurge for a better mic too. I'm happy you found me, I hope you enjoy the book.
I don’t care for books that are LITERALLY hard to read - you made the right choice because right after you found a great book
Reading is supposed to be FUN.
SO happy to hear the positive prospects on the job front. Also, it gives me a kick when you review a book you REALLY liked! Have a good rest of the week.
Yeah the job stuff is going slow but I have months of money. I was quite anxious this past weekend but seem to be over that.
Congratulations on reaching 300 subscribers by the way. Great you found a book you really liked.
Thanks! It was only 293 yesterday so a nice surprise to see it today.
Hey, do you heave a instagram?
Happy you found a good one
I would bet you'd like it too.
Thanks for doing the tag! Lots of interesting SF books I've not read here. I enjoyed Annihilation, it reminded me of the film Stalker, then I later read Roadside Picnic and liked that even more.
I do like a good booktag so thank you.
Wow, 28 years. Medusa Uploaded sounds really good. I remember Cyberpunk being the "thing" back in the late 80s/early 90s - heh, maybe it was because of all the Nintendo games I played :p Thanks so much for tagging me, I'm going to try to get to this one in July :)
Cool beans. I have one pure cyberpunk vid which bombed. Oh well.
I got let go of from my previous library job - it’s a lovely pull the rug moment. I’m sorry you’re going through it atm. And you got further into heaven breaker than I did. I got blood stones on my tbr
One of my recs! I'm feeling confident about that one. And thank you so much. I still have a bit of anxiety at the moment but feel much better.
Sorry to hear that you lost your job. That's really sucks. Is there any chance that you have a Class A CDL? If so, it shouldn't be hard to find another driving gig. But if you don't, a lot of companies will help you get it. Trucking companies of all shapes and sizes need drivers, local, regional, and over the road. And the money can be pretty good. I recently retired from a big trucking company, and they've been hounding me to come back ever since. Good luck finding something👍
I actually do but I have only driven B class trucks for the last two decades. So I'll need a requalification.
Oh good grief. I forgot three books; Perdido Street Station (Great!) Frankenstein (Great!) and Moby Dick (Not so great)
20+ years? You've got to read them now... lol And make a video on them as well.
That's not out of the question. We'll see.
Thanks for the tag! 😄 I didn't realize Project Hail Mary was getting an adaptation, that's exciting news!
Ready Player One is a favourite of mine! 🥳
@@TheChapterConundrum The film is something I put on with some frequency, even if I am not always directly watching.
@@Montie-Adkins Nice! I remember being angry at the film of RPO the first time I had watched it because of the way it was way different than the book but once I took a step back and rewatched it I still enjoyed it! 😄
In senlin ascends seems like he’s just gonna have to find a new wife Heard Medusa uploaded is good I’ve put anihilation on my tbr
I don't think I directly recommended Annihilation, so if you don't like it, it doesn't count against my rec-record which still stands at 0 for 2.
@@Montie-Adkins hahaha no you didn’t directly recommend but like yourself a lot of ppl like it
I read the first 3 senlin ascend books but have been putting off the 4th book for a long time now for some reason
I'll call the 4 th book the worst, but it's still really good. I thin it was the 2nd one I liked best, life on an airship and all.
Some interesting choices. Food for thought!
Nice job with the tag. One of the best things about your channel is the majority of your books are things of which I have never heard, so that makes it interesting. Of course, should I ever want to read one, I imagine they would be difficult to locate. The chirping smoke alarm made me smile ...I will await tomorrow's videos to see if you have changed the battery! Thanks as always for sharing your thoughts!
It's a hallway alarm outside. As much time as I have been in used book stores yes many of these would be hard to locate. But then that's what Amazon is for.
Everyone has to be ready for the zombie apocalypse, ha, ha. Happy reading to you. Good luck with the channel.
I am enjoying lord fouls bane
Good to hear! Er, read. Feel free to let me know what you think of it when you are done.
The strange bird sounds too heavy for me but might have to check out annihilation
Well, there was nothing graphic. And i think perhaps one has to read Borne before The Strange Bird and Borne was great. I saw the film Annihilation first long ago, but though they are similar the book and film are their own animals.
It’d be interesting to know which vandermeer book is your fave
It's either Annihilation or Borne. All three Southern Reach books are great but Annihilation edges them out.
I finished the first book, The Blighted Stars (a random pick at Chapters/Indigo), and immediately ordered The Fractured Dark, I love the format of this book it's soo easy to read and reminds me of why I'm not using my iPad or Reader for it. I'm not used to romance in my Sci-Fi novels but it's a welcome change. I love strong female characters and this has plenty.
Naira could measure up to all time greats. We'll see how it ends within the month. Glad you liked it!
This is definitely a series that I love in spite of the main character! I do appreciate that the ramifications of his actions on the first book are very much explored and there sre certainly long ranging consequences. I'll note that Demon Cycle (Warded Man is book 1) is i think a great series in spite if the overuse of that kind of thing.
Yeah I liked the Warded Man though i was expecting something else, more arcane spellwork rather than warrior. Covenant pissed me off so much I almost threw The Illearth War into the windshield of the vehicle i was sitting in while reading it.
@@Montie-Adkins That is an incredibly fair response lol
yep theres some creepy ass funghi out there
Of course Australia produced the horrifying octopus stinkhorn. You have real D&D monsters there. Tell me when is the last time you saw a spider as big as your head there.
@@Montie-Adkins I’m suburban so we only huntsman’s here once or twice or a year. But if you’re in the country that would be weekly. That being said we have spiders of some kind in the house every week.
@@ChanelChapters
Hey man, Always glad to see a video from you pop up in my notifications. I don't always comment, but I do always watch & "like". I agree with your thoughts about "in your face" types of presentations in fiction (or in real life, for that matter!)...too much is off-putting...just let the characters live their lives and get on with the plot! It's interesting that there is fluctuation in your subscriber numbers...I hope that doesn't mess with your head. Just keep doing what you are doing! Of course, to pump up views/subs, it may be time for another video with some juggling (kidding!) Have a great weekend my friend!
I do look at stats but tend not worry about them. I am surprised by the big differences in counts; 22 views for one video then several hundred for another? Thanks again.
Glad you liked the blighted stars (I also think it’s cover is mid) I got heaven breaker on my tbr too
Cool! The Fractured Dark will be a week. The 3 Vandermeer will be..um...1 or 2 weeks, I might hit Heavenbreaker right after. I think the rest of my TBR is under 20 now, but oh well. I'll push it back as I feel like.
Oh my, the 3rd book the Bound Worlds is out June 25.
A she−goat, by name Heidrun, stands up in Valhal and bites the leaves off the branches of that famous tree called Lerad. From her teats runs so much mead that she fills every day a vessel in the hall from which the horns are filled, and which is so large that all the einherjes get all the drink they want out of it.

I’ll have to rec this to my friend who plays dnd
I gots so much D&D material. Ever play? Chanel the Wizard? Chanel the Witch? Chanel the Assassin?
@@Montie-Adkins nope never played Out of those I’d go witch
@@ChanelChapters What a surprise.
I've read Moby Dick twice now, and the prose to me is just on a level of it's own, it literally sings, Oh My God. Start to Finish. As for his overuse of punctuation.... it's definitely not "traditional", but I think it brings a unique sense of beauty to the reading experience that sets it apart from anything else I've ever read. Chef's Kiss! Cormac McCarthy is often criticized for his LACK of punctuation, especially in "Suttree" and in "Blood Meridian", but WOW, does it work. READ MCCARTHY! Enjoyed your take on this one, though I honestly never even thought of making any cultural comparisons to the situations in this story and the blinding snow storm of ideas that are bombarding us now. Apples and Oranges.
Regardless of my view, I feel the need to call it a must read.
@@Montie-Adkins Definitely👍
Thanks for taking in the tag! Love the “Star Wars” shirt.
Thanks. It is one of many.

It was a fun one, truly.
Love this book, can't wait to read the other two books.
lots of shockers. And a feeling of foreboding. And a well stuck landing. Thanks for watching!
Seems like the author has an undulate kink
I wonder now how many times it's sitting in the other 1000 books I have sitting here before it turned into a mind virus.
I keep seeing this book, i thi b k i need to pick it up lol. Would you say it's horror? Or thriller, or gen fiction? I love everything, horror is my go to genre tho. Thanks, like your vids but you're hard to hear, but my hearing's shot anyway so no big deal.😃✌️📚
