I do love the way they show how these things can manifest in this show. Christina suddenly being completely unable to stop crying after her miscarriage, Schmitt being unable to stop washing their hands after their first loss…it’s not just “we’re sad move on”, its coming to terms with these things as a doctor.

Ugh, having no money sucks. When I was a teenager, I was on medication for ADHD. My mother was a diabetic. My medication was 80 dollars a 'script and my mother needed her medication to keep her from becoming ill. So, I made the decision to say that I no longer needed mine. Nobody knew why. I managed just fine, but everyone said that continuing the medication was always an option when I felt like I had to make the choice between my mother's health and my own. I also worked every weekend and holiday as soon as I was able to do so, and my mother worked two jobs. It still wasn't enough to keep our lights on or our water running all of the time. Just this past summer, I got some tests done because I suffer with chronic stomach issues and I was trying to see if anything specific was causing it. My insurance was inactive which I was not made aware of, otherwise I never would have done them. Those tests that told us absolutely nothing cost my family 16,000 dollars, not to mention the money it costs for yearly dental stuff and vision stuff and just... everything that none of us have money for.

People are complaining about this being an American problem. This is a universal problem. It isn't exclusive to America. Healthcare is literally a problem in every country because everyone knows just how expensive medicines are.

When I was younger, I had some really big snakes. Kept a bottle of vodka by the biggest ones enclosure for exactly this reason- Though I never handled her without another person around, also for exactly this reason. Never had to use it, though. She was one of the more mellow babies I ever had the pleasure of taking care of.

As being a large person being told my problems would go away if I lost weight. It helps having doctors look at the whole you. I got recently told by a surgeon that I’m essentially too fat for surgery. Note he was not being mean he was explaining the chances of me getting infections are higher and after having an infection (not surgery related) put me in the hospital, I appreciate being told why versus being told I’m just too fat. But it still made me feel invalidated especially in the fact that I had lost over 100 lbs from the gastric sleeve surgery
