If I could recommend anything.. avoid the “lipstick on a pig” methods.. removing rot and filling the voids with sealant, spray foam, Bondo, or just leaving the rot.. and just painting over it. I’ve found T-shirts jammed in and covered with caulk.. must have thought.. “it’s up high.. who will know”.. well God knows. And your in His house. Quick fixes will let the frame continue to deteriorate. And if it is housing a very heavy & expensive stained glass panels..as the frame slowly fails over the years..shifts and moves. It will start to bend the stained glass panels, breaking, the many time’s, irreplaceable glass (period glass & painted painted glass.) We put as much emphasis into restoring the frame as we do the stained glass. Thus, we install a strong, quality protective covering over it to protect both the stained glass and frame. I don’t speak for other studios, but we have our way of doing it. It’s time tested, and works great. My full intent & focus is to make the windows last hundreds of years longer than the first go around. No sales pitch.. just fact & who we are. If you need any help you know who to call. 👍
