Red Cherry Shrimp No CO2, No Fertz, No Filter, No Water Change
I will feed the Red Cherry Shrimps and show you some basic things, and an important tip about breeding shrimp. The main engine of this aquarium is the plants, plants keep this ecosystem alive. That's why the biggest fight is to keep the plants alive. I still don't know what kind of aquarium this is: Walstad Method, Dirted Tank or Low Tech ?

And I didn't buy anything except the aquarium and the pump (the aquarium stood without it for the first half year, and then I accidentally found it in my apartment), and I found everything else in nature (substrate and organisms). There are no fish, but there are ramshorns, pond snails, bivalve, isopods, ostracods, daphnia, cyclops and some worms. Of the plants there are hornwort, algae and duckweed (but it is not growing well now, since I was gone for several months and the aquarium was without light).

    If you're reading this and you're doing water changes, you're doing the hobby wrong. Having done this method with both gravel and sand, you should always choose sand to cap the soil. I'd never use gravel in an aquarium again. You also need water circulation in planted tanks at night, if not your fish will eventually suffocate.

    • @walstadmethodstepbystep
      @walstadmethodstepbystep วันที่ผ่านมา

      yes i read this. I don't think fish die if you use gravel instead of sand. I use gravel and not a single fish has died. and the lack of water movement, I don't know what to believe, I just said just what I observed. if this project with this aquarium is going to be a failure, I will announce it, so that no one makes the same mistake as me !!! Thank you

    • @MCorrigan
      @MCorrigan วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@walstadmethodstepbystep fish won't die if you use gravel, it's more for the plants. Gravel in my experience is the worst thing you can put in a tank. As for the surface agitation, during the day plants produce oxygen, whereas at night they produce carbon dioxide, so if there is no surface agitation at night, fish can suffocate. Whether you can get away with this or not, depends on how many fish to Joe many plants you have in your tank.

    the main problem of every low tech aquarium is overfeeding. "a hungry fish is a healthy fish" / "live things thrive on dead things"- Father Fish . that's all you need to know. also I never clean the bottom. because of careful feeding, mulm has time to seep into substrate and act as nutrient

  • @Solus-qn3ur
    @Solus-qn3ur 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    You have hornwort plants, it will be unlikely to have ammonia in that aquarium, because that plant is nutrients hungry, it will make the water crystal clear because of that plant, heck you just make that a hornwort only plant in aquarium, the fishes will likely thrive with just hornwort and by the way, any accumulate gases will just consume by plants. It will just increase the nitrates for a mean time, before plants can consume it. It will not harm the fishes or any shrimps, unless the water is putrid or have very high concentration of mineral or ph.

As you say at the start, information is not easy to find! So I've just gone on common sense and the knowledge I've built from years of keeping aquariums. She moved in yesterday evening. I'm starting with a filter, then I will gradually up the plant life and lower the filtration rate, until I'm ready to see if it can run itself. Anyway... I shall watch everything! I love the 'creepy' voice over and that's also one of my absolute favourite pieces of music. Keep it up!
