Hey thanks for stopping by! My name is Sharon and I want to share my Scottish allotment plot with you - I'm what you would call an enthusiastic amateur. Gardening is a passion but so is food so I would like to invite you into my garden and home to show you what I do and hopefully entertain you along the way. I do occasionally bring videos about other things I've been doing as well as our furry child (that's a dog in case you were wondering). Hope you enjoy and stay with me. x

Look out, Wall of Hadrian, it's time for the stringlined border of asparagus! Love how fun a day in the allotment is for you, it's the simple things 😊😊😊
You have to look for the fun in everything you do - don't you?!

Cheers Michael!
certainly does make you feel better <3 next year will be my asparagus 2nd year so iv still a year to go before i can harvest , its amazing how lil by lil things do happen loved your vid thanks for sharing
Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I'm keeping my fingers crossed about the asparagus! Looked like nothing going in but time will tell.
👍👍👍
I agree, manure is king in the garden and that is one mega-impressive poop-covered plot! What a refurb on the allotment patch, and geeze the temperature! I'm rusty on my seasonal knowledge from th UK, has been years since I was there, do you put the manure down and let it stay on top to overwinter? Or does it get dug in? Sorry, might have missed that detail. We might as well be living on different planets atm, our temperatures are creeping ever upward and most days are mid 30's at the moment. Always great to see what you're up to in the patch, keep it up! PS if you ever watch my vids, you'll see how relatively uncluttered your shed is 🤣 but your recent podcast eps have slowly been seeping into my curmudgeonly mistrust of all things clean and tidy!
Thanks for your comment. You are right that traditionally the manure would be dug in but we are a no-dig plot thanks to Charles Dowding (check him out on YT if you don't know him already). So the manure is put on the top in a thick layer and left for nature to deal with. When you think about a forest, nobody digs the fallen leaves in, they are decomposed naturally and feeds the forest. It's been found that digging actually does more damage to the microbiology of your soil and it's structure - so cover it and leave it alone! I've subbed to your channel so I am working through your vids too! Glad you find the podcast useful - next season will be completely different, as is life!! (and our temperatures)
@@myslicechannel I love the way you think! Yes, I love the idea of no-till, have you ever watched that documentary on the "Back to Eden" method? Interesting stuff, and like you say, emulating what nature does. I cherry pick a bit with my gardening methods, but no-till and things like it are all in the mix; absolute garden heathen I am! Thank you so much for subscribing! I'm new to all this, but have been gardening just for a bit of extra food and inner peace for years now, and grew up on a mango farm so I guess I go way back? And yes, your podcast is severely underviewed in my opinion!!! But I'm sure whatever format you use, I'll be listening anyway :) Different sides of the globe, same love for the garden, let's do it! :D
Clutter is visual noise, this actually makes complete sense to me. I also have been coming to the same realisation this last few years that the most valuable asset we really have is time. A lot of my physical clutter is probably just a manifestation of my mental clutter....Thanks, I probably needed this 😅.
Thank you and yeah, I liked that phrase too. I'm so close to actually tackling the clutter - but I'm not happy to just chuck it out..yet!
@myslicechannel you make really good points around why the minimalism hype in the past decade is a bit challenging for most of us in real terms! Really appreciate your perspective around it all. And yep,me too, I also have a list as long as my arm of things to get rid of/sell/recycle/upcycle etc. What is the line for being a hoarder? Asking for a friend....
Looking good as usual, Credit where credit is due, keep going, never mind the Spider's or Rat's Fear nothing or no-one.
Thank you. Wise words!😃
You never Fail to Educate People to grow their own Food, Trump should hire you. Keep it up
ha ha Thank you!
Woohoo manure day! 😊 what a beaut horizon you have, especially with that little fella
So glad you appreciated it! What's not to like about manure?!!
@@myslicechannel Agreed! The only time you want the video to be a steaming pile of...y'know

They are wonderful birds, I recently made a pond in backyard and very often I see them digging somethingor just doing they thing around the pond fun to see them!! But they only live for 13 months well sad..
I love them. Didn't know that was how long they lived but I'm sure their offspring find us too. Brilliant, friendly little guys!
That's on average, the maximum in captivity is 17 years. Most wild robins die in their first year while learning how to be independent. A wild robin that makes it past this early phase might make it to 4 or 5, or even older if it's lucky.
@@feuerling Thanks for sharing. Love learning more about what I see on my plot!
Telepathy and Emily cucumbers do well for me, good to have a tidy, but we do have to priorities some jobs more than others. Trying to over winter some of my peppers this time. 🍂🍁Happy gardening, Terry King.
Thanks Terry. I'd put off clearing it out for too long. But now it's up I'll be able to get things started earlier next year.
@myslicechannel good planning always works.

Not too bad a harvest. X
Thank you. I've got them on the windowsill now to ripen up a bit! x
Looking good 👍🏼 😊
Thank you! Appreciate that.
Great podcast Sharon. Having had burnout a couple of times, your suggestions for slowing down hit home. I now practice a lot of these. Retirement helps, too. Practising being assertive and saying no or not now really made a difference. I thought of taking breaks as refuelling for my mind and body. We can't run on empty. We are human beings, not human doings, so practice just being. 😊
Thank you so much Ann. You are so right, we are not designed to just keep going on and on. Breaks are essential! Glad you enjoyed the episode and appreciate your comment. x
👍👍👍
🤗Thank you Michael.
does it work on nettles ?
Yes, it's great on nettles. In the second half of the video if you look closely you'll see some green nettles (which I left alone) and something very brown to the left - that's the nettles I covered! Just make sure you get down to ground level and not just sprinkling the leaves.
@ okay thanks

Right back at you!
I remember when you did this a few days back, cool to see a very real results follow-up!
Thanks. I thought it would be helpful for people to actually see it working.
@@myslicechannel It is! I love simple yet effective solutions like this, thanks for showing me, I've never seen salt and vinegar used like this before.
@@thegardenlikesdad You're welcome!
Out of curiosity could you mix the vinegar with salt and then spray it? I am off to try it on some nettles near the house
I've never done that so will be interested to know if it works that way. Don't see why not, I just prefer to sprinkle and soak!
That’s interesting. Keep going👌🥁👌❤
Thanks! Appreciate that. ❤️😊
Most of the women look pregnant to me and a couple of them look like they're expelling afterbirth. #112 - I see how it can be a fern - I also see what looks like a Dutchman's pipe flower at the top, or it could be a fallopian tube. I don't know about the other plants you mention and if they match up to plants we know today. I read near-death experiences (NDE) all the time so I'm totally with you on this idea. I have a lot of questions for God when I die. This manuscript is one of them. I read that some NDErs see a matrix of questions that's really important and I think it's human made. Death is likely going to be very revelatory and a grand adventure. If we live our lives "right" apparently everything becomes clear to us. I likewise believe in reincarnation and past lives after reading NDEs for the past few decades and listening to life regressions on YT channels like Alba Weinman's. Anyway, the writing is very beautiful and seems to be really saying something. I can't read it either. There are many interesting sites about it online. It definitely looks European to me. Cool video on it.
Thank you for you great comment. I really wish I had more answers for you about the book. I still feel like I 'should' be able to read it but I get so frustrated when I can't. Maybe one day all will be revealed to us.
Beautiful harvest!
Thank you, I feel very grateful for any harvest I get!!
Very interesting to me, as I grow in HOT Northern California, where many of my plants did not survive the long stretches of 105-110 degrees this Summer! I Cheers!
Thank you! I can't imagine having that sort of heat!!😉

It's at Landmark Adventure Park in Carrbridge Scotland. Hope you get there. x
I've met horses like that before 😅 Your external train of thought ("ladybug," "That's not what I thought I put in here...") while you garden is highly relatable when compared to what goes through my head when I'm out in mine!
