Remember: You are not "Too Much" | Hilary Blair
You are a lot. And you're not too much.
Audience members at the ATD conference in May came up to me after my session to let me know that this stuck with them, and they're carrying it out into the world. This concept is an ever-evolving one, rooted in the fear of being "too much." Too loud. Too perky. Too driven.
Many of us have felt like members of the "too much" club at one point in our lives. Sharing our authentic self means acknowledging that each of us can be a lot. We're complex, we have extremes, we're a lot. You are a lot. And you're not too much. And don't let anybody tell you different.

Authenticity | Hilary Blair
มุมมอง 1221 วันที่ผ่านมา
What does Authenticity mean to you? Our team chatted a bit about how this manifests in our daily work with the clients we serve. It's one of those terms that can mean different things to different people. Today I'm offering my thoughts that help keep me grounded with this concept: Authenticity to me is about knowing your values, your truth and what matters to you. It's about sharing those outwa...
Showing Emotion VS "Being Emotional" | Hilary Blair
มุมมอง 14หลายเดือนก่อน
One of the most consistent misconceptions we run into as communication coaches: the habit of eliminating emotion from interactions. If our goal is to establish, grow and foster strong professional relationships, we have to let our emotions exist, in order to be fully present. Of course, there's going to be a bit of a grey area between recognizing emotion and being emotional - and we owe that to...

How do we most efficiently and effectively establish rapport with someone at the beginning of a professional relationship? Find the clicks. In order to connect more easily, let's reframe "small talk" as relational tapas - small bites of nourishment that inform our relationship with one another. These things matter! These pieces of information are the foundation of professional relationships. We...
Increase Awareness of Automatic Story-telling | Dr. Robin Miller
มุมมอง 52 หลายเดือนก่อน
We all do it. You're doing it right now: we put story on everything. Dr. Robin A. Miller, PCC shares her take on this natural psychological phenomenon, to remind us that increasing our awareness is essential, so that we align our shared truth. It's important to examine our assumptions and the narratives we create, to separate observed behaviors from the story we create from them. We're sharing ...
Clicks Strengthen Relationships - Hilary Blair
มุมมอง 13 หลายเดือนก่อน
Finding common ground isn't just for getting to know new people. Just because you've worked with someone and have established a relationship, doesn't mean that it can't benefit from going deeper, and finding new ways that you connect. We call them Clicks (not cliques). It could be an overlapping experience (favorite hike or coffeeshop for example), it could be an influential book you both read,...
Intentionality - Hilary Blair
มุมมอง 33 หลายเดือนก่อน
Today's word of the day: Intentionality. A huge part of what makes for successful communication is intentional choice, constantly, regarding modes of expression and choice of words. Words matter! Words create worlds. Communicating with clear and careful intention makes the difference for the efficiency of your team. That doesn't mean we cut out jargon: we use it intentionally as a tool and for ...

Presence Contradiction - Hilary Blair MPI Wisconsin
มุมมอง 25 หลายเดือนก่อน
See, but don't see. This contradiction keeps connections shallow and stunts relationship growth. We use a polite filter in certain interactions - engage but don't invade. When you recognize this behavioral pattern and commit to relationships - see them and allow them to see you. It keeps us in dialogue - relational, not transactional. And truly present. I had the chance to unpack this protectiv...

Our team gets asked all the time: Why is this leader not showing up the way they should? Can you fix it? Little things that people do every day with their voice undermine their forward success. So often it's one of these 5 vocal habits. We're not fixing anything, we're inviting them to show up more fully. Our voices are ours to use as we like; these are suggestions of adjustments you may not be...
Before and After - Presentation Coaching with ARTiculate: Real&Clear
มุมมอง 56 หลายเดือนก่อน
For anyone who's coach-curious out there, have a quick watch! Sandy gave us the idea to create a before/after and volunteered to be our subject. His before clip is a standard representation of what people do. It's expected! Greeting, introduction, statement of the circumstances... There's nothing inherently wrong with it, but is it putting the audience in the right frame of mind to fully tune i...
