i drag race air cooled vw motors at high RPM i found out the best way to make a air cooled motor live at high RPM is a forged chromoly counter weighted crankshaft. using forged chromoly i beam connecting rods .i dont know if they make the above cranks and rods for a corvair but it sure works on my 300hp vw race motors i built over the years great vid

Hi Mark. I just finished restoring a 1965 Corsa, formally a turbo car. Previous owner removed the turbo and installed 140 heads and a spider intake with a. Holley 390 cfm carb which runs absolutely horrible. I just acquired 4 original rebuilt single barrel carb and I’m looking for some detailed photos of carbs on a complete engine for reference or any info on books that will guide me in the right direction. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bernie

"Typical sandrail stuff" The folks I have met running sandrails tend to be mechanically insensitive and taking shortcuts on engine builds is totally on brand for them.

Too bad. That may be one of GMs best engineered engines out of the gates. SBC was a fluke and not that great out of the gates and the 3800 was a multigenerational stepchild. Corvair motors were a curveball.

I ran across your channel this morning….thanks for the videos. I inherited my first Corvair, 65 Monza w/140, from my wife’s grandfather. Her grandparents lived in Sedona from 1959 til their death in 1987 & 1989. Their son, my father-in-law, hauled the car from Oak Creek Cliffs Drive to Columbus, IN in 1988 and delivered to me. Although i treasured the car, I sold it locally in 1995, to help fund the startup of our business. Still miss it, it was beautiful. In 1988, my wife’s parents moved into the Sedona house and lived there until 2015, when my FIL passed. My wife and I lived with them for most of 2013/14 and helped care for them. Ironically, we almost moved to Cottonwood in 1995. I had the opportunity to take over a vintage RV repair shop in Cottonwood. For the life of me, I can’t remember the name of the RV, but seems it was something that resembled the Corvair name. I believe it used a Chrysler transaxle setup. I passed on the business and started our own steel shop in Indpls. My current project is a 63 8-door panel Corvair. I don’t actually know much about Corvairs, but find them interesting. A very lovely Wagon. I would have adored to see more pictures of the wagon it's self, maybe even the trunk, the engine but instead had to listen to this guy go on and on and on, tell me was this really a vid about the wagon? Or about the guy? He sure loves his own voice,

Allot of nice Vairs, But if I had to pick one I'd take the 65 500 4 door hard top would be my choice. Thanks for sharing.

I disagree, that cooling fan is from an early 60s car.

And yet #1 is closest to the oil pump. Were the crank and rods from a turbo or 140hp motor, they're stronger.

I would guess ran low on oil, spun a bearing & broke the rod. Back in 1970-71 I had a 1965 monza (140HP) with 7 qt finned aluminum pan, headers & glass packs, cam and 4 primary carbs. Regularly turned 8000 rpm on stock bottom end.

I’m ‘62 and just really getting started on Corvairs. Unlike you I do plan on working on them until I can’t. It would be cool if you posted a video showing those tips and shortcuts for pulling engines!

That intake log on the heads didn't actually make much more power than the stock head. He would have been better off using bigger valves and adding a second port to the stock heads and then using 4 carbs on it. It would have worked and made just as much power without that weird log manifold.

I had very little problem with belts on my '61 when I found the right belt. The factory belt design did not work well on it. By the way, that style of fan is the best for cooling. It moves the most amount of air. Get a belt with what looks like "teeth" on the inside and the width is not as wide as the groove. Tighten appropriately and it will work.
