Dunkers tests and animation

These are the camera tests and takes for the DairyLee Dunkers Dinotime commercial in 1997. All composites were done in camera using the Dynamation method except for one green screen shot. Ray Harryhausen was on board as an advisor and helped me with the technocalities of Dynamation. For instance, on one shot the camera was a certain distance to the screen and model and while i was doing BW dip ...

I finally got to fly an RCAF Chippy a few weeks ago. As a totally novice aviation enthusiast I was entirely delighted at the experience in some quite sporty weather. She was a very natural plane to maneuver and easily kept at altitude and heading. I enjoyed the controls, and found the stick control much more natural than the modern yoke controls. I look forward to having another go at it now that I've gotten a feel for it! Thanks for the video.

My penultimate fixed wing flight was in WP925, 20th Feb 1976. Then on to Basic Rotary at Middle Wallop. Good days.

I remember my 'Chippie' days, rock hard parachute to sit on. Blank 12 gauge shotgun starter and canvas wings; "don't taxi with you flaps down Bell!".

The Dragon and its brother the Rapide should be in an art museum. But it's even better that we can watch them fly.

I used to fly G-BCSL with my dad as a kid, he designed the black paint job it has today, I loved how easy it was to fly. Great plane!

If you do a less comprehensive pre-flight than that you shouldn't be flying. Safety is paramount and his walk round goes as far as possible to ensuring that.

Brilliant video and a great commentary with no silly music to drown out the sound of the aero engine. My first ever flight was at RAF Benson while on summer camp (1959) with my school's cadet force. That first flight was followed up with an hour's trip in an Avro Anson - what more could yopu wish for!

I have been asked by the Chief missing aircraft of New Zealand to find out where the pitot and static vents are. He has just received more info whereby knowledge of these positions could help in the 60 year old search. I know it sounds daft but some new info and witness evidence has come to light. Many thanks Robin

What a superb film. A walk round is so instructive to start with and then handling notes. Marvellous. I have been involved with the circle of DH90 fans in New Zealand where they have ZK-AYR still flying. They have also had the biggest search in NZ for the Dragonfly of Brian Chadwick who went missing in 1962 with ZK-AFB. Recently I found my parents film of Chadwicks DH89 and posted that on TH-cam. Even more film has been discovered. The Dragonfly was a superb aircraft in so many ways. For NZ Southern Alps flying it was not the best choice due to Carb Icing problems in its Gipsy Major (?) engines. The carb heat only came on when throttling back. So Delta Uniform does not have Carb Heat! I did hear that a Tiger Moth used for the film Solo had a modification so that carb heat could be used at full throttle. It made that aircraft much safer in the cold wet cloudy west coast of New Zealand. It is thought that AFB was prone to carb icing and probably that caused it to come down in the NZ jungle and lost in that area. What a superb aircraft G-AEDU is and duchess is so appropriate for it. Thanks for posting it and I am so surprised used not to have come across this before.

What a great video! As with many who may watch this video, it brings back great memories of piloting the Chippy back in the late 70's and early 80's. A real pilot's aeroplane until you throw one into 6 turn spin, then all hell breaks loose! Having a short wingspan means the rotation is pretty rapid! If I ever win the lottery, a Chipmunk would be my first purchase!

Very good comment Neil. With respect, there are two many dreamer comments on many of these segment, which need to be verified.Aeroplanes are aeroplanes. They all have their strength and weakness. For my opinion there is no place for dreaming. Every aircraft flys on the same formula. CL HALF ROW VSQUARED S. One has to face the facts and fly the aircraft on the Formula.
