    Personally, and call me old-fashioned, I dislike non-linear narratives because when I read a book I like to get from A-Z as quickly as possible. Not a fan of books over 400 pages with several hundred subplots, but you do you. It's your book.

    • @AuthorNation
      @AuthorNation หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's not old-fashioned. It's a personal preference and we all have them. Lots of people LOVE a non-linear narrative, and you don't. That is one of the beauty of books. There is a book for everyone, several in fact.

    Great video! Thank you. It's so tricky figuring out the best option. Honestly none of them are great. I'm a new author and just setting this part up and I'm thinking of saying nonreturnable. I think my best way of selling is going to be face to face in person anyway. I just don't think I can risk the cost that could add up with stores ordering a bunch and deciding to return. It's such a hard decision. If you would share, what do you do for your books or think is best?

    • @AuthorNation
      @AuthorNation 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends where you live. If you live in the United States, consider making them returnable at first. Any that come back you can decide wht to do with them. Give them away, sell them at events, ask local book stores to carry them, etc. If too many come back, then you can change your mind.

They bring them in on consignment and return unsold copies at the authors expense. I do like a distribution that lets people go into stores and order my books, but am I am leary of them being stocked in stores as it has cost me money in the past.

    When newbies write our first book, the book cover is a huge hurdle. It is so hard to decide on a direction. Looking back, I wish I had thought of the first cover as a part of a series of related book covers instead of as a single one. It would have guided some of my decisions and fine tuned them in a way that would allow them to be adapted for future books in a series. If you don’t do a book two, it won’t matter. But if you do, you will be prepared and not having to reissue the first with a new cover.
