Woodturning a Salmon* Pen
มุมมอง 391ปีที่แล้ว
* It's not really salmon. It just looks like it. I think it's maple burl. I made this pen as a birthday gift for my sister. I used a Duchess pen kit from Penn State Industries. It's finished with CA glue.
Turning a Whiskey Smoker
มุมมอง 6Kปีที่แล้ว
I made this whiskey smoker out of black walnut as a gift for a friend's birthday. This is the first one I ever made so I made a few mistakes here and there. But over all it was a great experience and I learned a lot. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to make a video of the smoker in action.
Woodturning a Spectraply Bottle Stopper
มุมมอง 1Kปีที่แล้ว
In this video, I transform a piece of mesmerizing Spectraply into a stunning wine bottle stopper. Using my lathe, I shape and contour the Spectraply, unveiling its vibrant colors and unique patterns. This is only my third time making a bottle stopper so I went with a simple design. I sanded to 600 grit and finished with a few coats of spray liqueur.
Turning a Silky Oak* Bowl
มุมมอง 3394 ปีที่แล้ว
* I'm no treeologist, but I think it's silky oak. The wood came from a tree that came down during Hurricane Irma. I had two visitors while making this bowl. A streaked sphinx moth and a bee. No insects were harmed while making this video
Woodturning a Top
มุมมอง 4.3K5 ปีที่แล้ว
I turned a small wooden top on my lathe. I'm not sure what kind of wood it is. If anyone can identify it, let me know in the comments. I used a roughing gouge, detail gouge, and a skew chisel. I sanded it with 220 and finished it with danish oil.
Wood Turning French Rolling Pin From Log
มุมมอง 151K5 ปีที่แล้ว
My wife requested a rolling pin. I didn't want to have to use and hardware so I decided on a french rolling pin. It's made from a Norfolk Island Pine log I had laying around. It came from a tree that was a victim of Hurrican Irma. If I were to do it again, I would cut down the log to a smaller size before turning, but I decided to use this as practice for my spindle turning.
Wat are you finishing it with? What are you putting on the wood? Is it safe around fire?
Nice work. I would like to try making this but it's a little hard to follow your steps when you re-chuck the parts. Can you add some captions that say what part you're working on at each of those steps?
At 3:56 you clean the sand paper, what did you use? thx Brian
Can you give me the sizes of each of the forstner bits you used?
The bits will depend on the screens you purchase.
@ yes, but can you tell us what you used?
Niles make very nice stainless threaded inserts that press-fit into the stopper body.
I like the rust on your tooling?
ever have a problem with chips or ash falling into the drink?
Glue on a couple sacraficial pieces of wood on the 2 side grain sides to prevent chipout.
Looks amazing, the color pops.
Nice work! What finish did you use?
Thank you! I used a homemade friction polish. I just mixed equal parts (about an ounce each) shellac, boiled linseed oil, and denatured alcohol in a condiment bottle. I put it on the piece and then applied some pressure to generate heat. I'm not really sure about the science behind it, but it gives it a nice finish. I also used sanding sealer before applying the friction polish, but I don't think that step was really necessary. Thanks for watching!
Turned out real nice. Thanks for sharing
Very nice indeed.
Thank you kindly
Lovely work
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Just stunning!
Thank you, sir!
Fake and staged
You got me. It's all A.I. generated. Thanks for watching!
You make it look so simple 😊I'm new to woodturning.. Beautiful piece!! Ireland
Thank you! I pretty much learned from TH-cam so if you have any questions I'd be happy to help. Thanks for watching!
Super 👍 I'am sri lanka
Appreciate it. Thanks for watching!
Any chance you have a link for the mesh basket you used?
Sure do! I got them off Amazon. Thanks for watching. 5 PCS Premium Double Screen Filter for Cocktail Smoker, 1.3" Diameter Washable Stainless Steel Mesh Screen Filter Bowl for Bourbon Whiskey Smoker a.co/d/dDYcruE
I like that you showed the mistakes and how you fixed them.
What kind of wood did you use
Thank you for your question. I can't say for sure. The blank came from a box of random blanks I got from Penn State Industries, but my best guess would be this dye stabilized maple burl blank. Thanks for watching! www.pennstateind.com/store/WXST02X.html
I am a beginner, I want to make one of these for my husband. I noticed you drilled a hole to use as a mount on your chuck. Is there any special technique and angle to doing that?
Where did you get the insert??
Thank you for your comment. I believe I searched for "whiskey smoker filter" on Amazon. I chose these because they have a double screen and seem to be higher quality than the others I found. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. 5 PCS Premium Double Screen... www.amazon.com/dp/B0BP9KSFYY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Niiiiice!
Came out great!! Nice editing as well!
Appreciate it!
Little disappointed that you still don’t supply buttplugs. Great video though!
So, this ISN’T a butt plug?!
You deserve more views with this good quality ❤
Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to watch my video! I really appreciate your support and encouragement. It means a lot to me. I recently moved and have a garage to work out of, hence the mess, (before, I was in an 8x10 shed on my parent's property) so I'll be posting much more often. Thanks again!
I’ve turned a lot of silky oak, (grevillea robusta) native to Nth nsw to se qld in Oz. And certainly looks like it, a beautiful timber with a lovely grain and markings. Can be really hard when dried out and does check sometimes. Good bowl well turned. It can be a little allergic to some people as all grevilleas can, particularly skin irritations. Thanks for sharing
simply beautiful
Did you have any skin issues. I hear it can be like poison oak.
Very informative and without saying a word. Great technique with a skew.
Stephen, where did you get the 3 jaw chuck? And do you know the make and model? I have the same lathe. Awesome job on the top!
Thanks Josh! I got it from Amazon. It's the PSI Woodworking CUG3418CC Utility Grip 4 Jaw Chuck.
@@StephanKetterl Thanks so much for the info Stephan. Much appreciated. Josh
I'm a treeologist and I can confirm that is a silky oak.
Nice work!
Ausgezeichnet!! Ich habe TOP-SCRIBED!
Vielen Dank! Mein Vater heißt auch Andreas 😲
Lovely job Stephen. Stunning wood, what is it? Regards Jules
Thank you, Jules. I'm not sure what kind of wood it is. It's from a log I've had lying around for a while now. I'll try to find out, though. Thanks for watching.
Eh, you’re alright I guess.
Stephan Ketterl This butt plug was bigger than expected.
Um, thanks. I guess.
