Ford F-150 - interior fan control fix
มุมมอง 9K3 ปีที่แล้ว
If your interior fan has stopped working on one or some of the selections for the fan speed, it’s likely the resistor behind the glove compartment. Give that a try and hopefully it works for you.
Ford F150 fan running - FIXED!!!
มุมมอง 211K4 ปีที่แล้ว
My f150 5.0 coolant fans were running non stop on high after I changed water pump and thermostat. Endless attempts at fixing other things, what fixed it was installing a stock thermostat. What caused the issue to begin with was an aftermarket thermostat.
You just saved me hella diag bc it worked
Thank you so much, that’s exactly what I happened to mine
😅😅😂😂😂😂😂
Same issue on my 2012 f150 work truck, my boss couldn't care less but it's been doing this for 3 years now and I'm at a point where i wanna take the truck home with me one day and try and fix this. Thank you
I never connected that my high fan speed started when I changed the water pump and thermostat. Dont remember if I got an oem but I’m going to try swapping it out. How the heck does a thermostat affect the fan if it’s operating at the same temp??
@@jeffflowers729 I wondered that myself but my guess is even though they’re rated for the same temp there still might be a slight variance and perhaps it’s just a sensitive system. Others in the comments who couldn’t get an oem motorcraft t-stat, opted for a lower temp aftermarket one and it worked for them.
@@cinci520 but it knows almost the moment you start the cold engine?
The fan of my troca sounds loud only when I turn on the ac do I also have to replace the thermostat am I confused 😐?
I see comments on the thermostat tempature differance from 195 to 180 did go with a certain tempature thermostat
Nice video man thanks
I put 160 and mine stopped
I’d like to thank you ever so much I wish I had seen your post earlier then after spending hundreds of dollars just shy of thousand $$$ Simple fix much appreciated and thank you for your post.
Maybe I just got lucky but I fixed the problem with a couple of quarts of Prestone Antifreeze coolant. I have a 2013 F-150. Start making the roaring fan noise last Summer. Put the coolant in the rezervoir and the noise stopped. The noise started again last week when it got to be about 90 degrees out. Put a couple of quarts in yesterday and drove about 150 miles with a lot of stops in town. No noise. Give this a try. Maybe you will be lucky too.
Check your freon level before you do anything. Mine was over charged by the previous owner which was causing the fan to come on constantly. Emptied the freon, filled it with fresh freon to the correct level...no more fan problems.
I installed a new Ford Motorcraft thermostat and have the same problem with the fan.
I have the same problem ,so the solution is to use a original ford thermostat?
If you have switch it out with an aftermarket one, it’s likely the culprit. Either put the old one back in or replace with the motorcraft replacement.
Did the same thing as you. Just changed my coolant again yesterday and now I bought a new motor craft thermostat because the fan still kept kicking on. Thank you!
I have the same issue and more likely your video is the solution for it. Thanks man.
my fans always run on high speed temperature was normal no leaks who cooling system is new
THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Great video. Thank you
Had the same issue just had the water pump and thermostat replaced. The fan was running on high speed most of the time. Did a lot of research and came across this video so I replaced the thermostat with a Ford thermostat and that took care of the issue. Thanks for the post.
I just had my radiator replaced , the mechanic also replaced the thermostat with an aftermarket (wanted a Ford part but not in stock) , anyway my fan has been running like crazy now for several days ..... ALSO , in the past they had replaced that thermostat , again an aftermarket , and my engine light came on , code said "Thermostat" , I had them put a Ford Thermostat in back then , engine light went off .... I HOPE it is just a thermostat to solve this fan problem , but I will say this , it appears to me my 2010 F-150 4.6 wants ONLY a Ford OEM Thermostat ...... and frankly I am somewhat thinking "only Ford Parts" from now on .... Maybe NAPA , but these little "common auto parts stores" we see everywhere (you know the names) , I am having doubts about their parts .. I have used NAPA parts on a repair or two , and they seem to be doing fine ..... I'm only moderately mechanical savvy , so take what I say with a grain of salt ...... I do firmly believe "FORD OEM THERMOSTAT ONLY" though , going to replace it soon
UPDATE ..... Replaced thermostat with Ford OEM part ...... PROBLEM SOLVED , no more fan going crazy running on high all the time , and it's not even summer yet !!!!! FORD OEM THERMOSTAT , problem solved ..... I'm beginning to think these small box auto stores are just selling the cheapest chinese junk they can get their hands on ...... I've had issues with a few of their parts , like brake discs overheating and warping within a month ..... ridiculous to even sell that kind of JUNK
2013 F150 5.0 L I had the issue of high heat fan setting off- couldn’t figure it out after checking internal gauges on dash, diagnostics reading radiator fluid at 106 Celsius. (Was approx. 12-15 degrees higher than should be) I had just replaced upper hose and y connector. No radiator leaks. This video came in clutch- after watching your video I realized the local tire shop installed after market thermostat. 😮I had a certified mechanic to install Motorcraft(OEM Ford) thermostat. Problem solved. After thorough testing - all good- no more issues with high heat fan. Thank you - what a big help! Houston, Texas
My 2013 truck just started doing this this last weekend... iThe fans will start running on high right after starting up for the first time in 30F outside temps... Your video was the first one to come up. I'll be picking up a Thermostat from the dealership on my next days off and hopefully that takes care of it!
If you didn’t change the thermostat prior to this happening, and it’s still the stock one in there, you might have a different issue with possibly coolant level or AC Pressure switch or AC Manifold plugged. But if you’ve recent changed the thermostat then it’s likely your cause. Good luck!
@@cinci520 the water pump was changed but that was a while ago... this is a quick easy attempt. If not I'll work up that list. Thanks
Was your temperature gauge reading like 240 degrees as well?
No, the truck would actually never warm up to normal operating temperature.
Dude I’ve been dealing with it for a year. Thank you for making this video
Had the same problem today fixed it with a new thermostat from Ford motor company. I'm just curious why this happens??
Omg.!! Thanks 🙏🏽 I was having the same issue with 2012. Did ur oil gauge marked temperature right out the bat when u turned it on in the morning. Even the other gauges marked low temps, but the oil was kinda odd and the fans started to run like crazy.
Thank you so much for that!
So i did what you said and it worked out but once the engine reaches the temperature the fan still goes on high and doesn't stop did that happen to you
Yes, but only for a few days, maybe a week. I had to add some coolant after the system had burped itself. How long has yours been doing it? If you start your truck with the air conditioning completely turned off until the truck reaches temperature does it still continue the problem?
I recharged my ac system that fixed mine
Thanks so much money is doing the same thing right now thought I would look it up your video has been very helpful
This is actually well done, I'll be keeping this under my belt for future use.
At last thank you this fan is driving me crazy I will try that tomorrow
Same issue here. I put a new thermostat in and the fan started to run constantly. My water pump failed and I replaced it. Same fan problem. Put another thermostat in and to no avail. Going to put an OEM thermostat in next weekend. Will let you know.
Thank you!!! I’m in Alaska, and this is happening to me right now!!!
For my 2012 F-150, only the fourth fan setting worked. Happy to report that after swapping out the resistor, all fan settings are back to normal. Thank you!
Thank you.. you save me at least $ 350 .. and 2 days with out my truck..
My fan is loud and stays on high when the AC is on Max cool. Other than that the fan actually rarely kicks on when idiling . Driving I cannot tell
Great video. After talking to my son about this same problem with his truck, he got a Ford thermostat and it seems that fixed his problem. My issue is with an aftermarket thermostat that is not correct for this truck. What's the difference between the aftermarket unit and the Ford unit? It must have something to do with flow and how wide the thermostat opens. I have read where some models have a temp sensor in the radiator and one in the engine. When the temp of the two do not match, the ECM tells the fan to kick on high perhaps because the flow of coolant is somewhat restricted causing a difference between the two sensors. I assume the Ford thermostat must open wider which allows better flow through the system. If this is true, then the after market thermostats are not compatible and should not be sold as such. Yes, the aftermarket unit may fit, but it seems they don't work. Maybe those who have purchased those aftermarket units should ask for a refund. It might only be $20.00, but if you figure in the time and labor, it kinda stinks that "we the public" are buying parts that are not compatible as advertised.
Great video thanks
'16 F150, coyote engine same issue, I will try to find an original Ford thermostat. Thanks man for posting, very helpful
was your truck overheating? mine is doing the same thing and just today overheated. I am thinking on replacing the thermostat. thank you
Thanks for this post I had the same issue. I had replaced the coolant and thermostat in my 2018 5.0 F-150. I live in Florida so run the A/C most of the year. The dealer did not have an OEM thermostst in stock. I ordered one but became inpatiant after a few days so went up to Autozone and got and aftermarket one. My wife and I both noticed the fans were running full blast after I changed the themostat and coolant. After reading your fix I drained the radiator and replaced the themostat with the OEM one that finally came in. Amazingly it solved the problem! I also noticed the truck runs 20 deg F cooler. I am guessing the aftermarket themostat was opening at a higher temp than the OEM. Whatever the fans are definetly running slowewr. Thanks for the information cinci520!!
Thank you!!! Have the same exact issue going on.
Mine only works on 4
I have a ford expedition, they told me it’s normal that the runs nonstop.
Thanks so much for this video , I'm having the same problem, changed out my water pump and thermostat , and my fan going crazy
Imm having the identical issue with the 2013 f150 STX 5.0
Have you cleaned your engine sense this video? No this won't help your problem but your bay will look better. Yes I own a 2016 F165 and I have cleaned my engine at the carwash. I have a video and I didn't have any problem after.
Changed water pump and thermostat and fan stays on. Will replace the thermostat and report back if it works. Thank you,
