It's amazing how many "sound experts" you can find in the comments of Michael's live performances, I think that besides being the most famous artist of all time he is also the most criticized artist of all time. Man, he does the overplayback technique that many singers do and it has complete technical validity, for this type of massive concerts. He sings over his own pre-recorded voice. Regardless of that, how many did the message reach? Have you already made THAT CHANGE?

You should go to live music concerts more often. MJ massively used playback singing in concert like no other major artists. This was ridiculous. During the 1988 Grammys ceremony, in front of all the music industry, he was the one and only to perform lip synching... I can accept that performing songs with huge choreography, was impossible. You have ti breathe to sing. But Man in The mirror was not one of these songs with dancing. This song was never sang live. An don't answer "Yes. At the end of the song.... bla bla bla...."

I think just years and years of working and straining his vocals by giving the records and performances had an affect on him. You can see during this is that his voice started growing back after the years of rest. (if that makes sense)
Same could b said 4 Freddie Mercury. After being diagnosed with HIV (Later AIDS), he cut down on his use of smoking, drinking & with not doing gruesome tours anymore, he was able 2 let his voice heal & with the album “Innuendo” he could his higher notes like never before.

With all due respect, Peter. You say his "voice started growing back" but MJ is using heavy playback during this performance. And when he does start singing at about 5:00 he sounds hoarse. I love and respect MJ but we must be objective and true when talking about his live performances. He still did dance of course.
