Use the percent side of the clino. Distance up plus negative distance down. Add that together. Say. You are 79 feet away from the tree, horizontal. 93 up, 7 down. It's equals 100. multiply by distance. .79. The tree is 73 feet tall. Or get a lazer.

Is there some type of organic material which can be placed into the bore hole as a final step to help protect the tree and minimize that loss percentage?

Awesome! I really enjoyed that :). I did an ecology degree decades ago, but I’m trying to organise all the plant groups in my heap systematically in their taxonomic groups which I never really did. I love how you love the Goodeniaceae 🙂. I’m born and bred near Sydney, so many species you’ll commonly come across around here. One thing I like about them, is they seem to be flowering most of the year. Maybe it is just perception… lol

using the point quarter method for determining the dominant tree species in a norwegian boreal forest for my IB biology IA. interesting method but i wonder if how the much the how long the transect lines are determined, whats recommended?

Actually while good for flight the respiratory system of birds was evolved way before they even evolved flight, crocodilians and some lizards also have a similar respiratory system

Much too complicated just use a pencil and multiply how many times it will fit to the top of the tree at arms length. times a known height at the bottom of the tree for instance a six-foot person. Accurate within 5%

Nice to see at least some more green for a change, even if in small patches. We have to fix this.

Really sad. I've driven by it for years. The undisturbed forest around it outside Long Scraggy Peak and Deckers are a stark and beautiful contrast, and it makes me sad that all this empty burnt area was once like that, and may take a lifetime to return to it. I'd love to help the forest service and plant new trees.
