I do the that without a fade no need with a 4m no 1 for everything but the round edge on the top with short front modified buzz actually but flat on top from ear to ear but slightly rounded front to back

After more than 20 years doing it (not in a salon environment) I also feel that free handing is essential for a good finish. Recutting it a few times too. Cut, brush, cut again and again until there's no missing hair that was otherwise at the wrong angle at some moment.
