This is a channel that gives you lectures, discussions, panel discussions, journal clubs, presentations, practical demonstrations and interviews related to the basics and essentials of TRANSfusion Medicine and TRANSplant Immunology for dissemination amongst the Transfusion and Transplant Immunology fraternity.
This is a brain child of Dr Mohit Chowdhry, MD who is one of the few Consultants in the country to have worked in both these fields and having an experience of more than 15 years. He has received his training from HLA regional laboratory, UHN, Toronto and is an author of various original research articles and case reports in various journals of National and International repute.
The creators of this channel are a team of successfully practicing as well as aspiring Transfusion Medicine Physicians who have come together for a common cause- i.e. TEACH

I have a question because you seem to be the most comprehendible knowledgeable person that I've run across for this question and it's really hard to find so I appreciate the video that you have made and very grateful for it. My question would be can you have the Duffy phenotype and the kid phenotype at the same time. I know they are close together. But they are on different chromosomes that I just discovered and I would just like to know because it is showing that I am positive for both I'm due to have surgery here in a month or so and would very much like to know. Awesome I am having numerous health problems and would like to know if this could possibly be related to that. I appreciate your time thank you so much
Hello @Amanda-cl6lh 1. Both Duffy system and Kidd system are two separate red cell antigen systems… Each system has different set of antigens and genes encoding (Duffy chr 1 and Kidd chr 18) and therefore separate inheritance pattern. So an individual can have or not have an antigen in Duffy system (Fya and Fya antigens) and in Kidd system (Jka and Jkb antigens) 2. If you are undergoing any surgical procedures, you will first undergo testing for blood grouping and screening for red cell antibodies - screening will identify if you have any red cell antibodies (accordingly antigen negative blood has to be transfused)… 3. Various antigens in blood group systems have been associated with susceptibility to certain diseases. That is, compared to those who don’t have the antigens, people with those antigens have more chances to get the disease …. It is not a fact that all those who are positive will end up acquiring the diseases…. Hope your query is answered.

In case 2 the HLA B allele DSA had MFI of 780 or so, which is lower than cut off of 1000. How do we take it as positive DSA?
Yes. Since antibodies do not know numbers and cut-off of 1000 is an arbitrary cut off value.. based on each lab..anything close to 1000 MFI, and DSA should be reported as positive .. just to be extra careful .Also antibodies wax and wane so today 800 can be 1000 tomo . Hope this helps
