just a tip from guy who hunts bluefish all the time... never ever lift fish like this, get a net or better option that mayority of us use specialy for smaller ones, reel fish very close to a tip of your rod, then 1 swing and its out never let fish jump in air or lose tenstion, even when you reel fish in put tip of rod in the water so it cant jump, i garantie you will land more fish then ever.
More cool stuff. Seeing you faff about with your bail-arm, have you ever thought about going bail-less? My spinning reels are bail-less, and I could never go back now. It just makes casting so much easier.

I agree Daiwa Sensor is a great line. What are your thoughts on Braid mainline against using Sensor 15lbs straight through.
Exactly what i do! I use JBraid x8 and FG Knot it with some superglue over it, fantastic combo that has not let me down ever.

Great video pal, stumbled upon this episode and thoroughly enjoyed it so I’ll binge watch the remaining episodes tonight. Normally fish for salmon/sea trout and thought I would chase bass over winter, blanked every fecking time.

Super video. Very informative and well put together. But, I disagree regarding what is more important; the reel or rod. Most rods will get the lure out without any difficulty given that 99% of rods have a super fast action, especially those casting up to 40grs. 40 years ago, rods for bass fishing were typically 10-11 feet and had a much slower action. The preoccupation with shorter rods means we have stiffer rods today and the improvements in technology lends to stronger rods which rarely break. Reels on the other hand are much lighter and do not stand the test of time. The gears may be stronger but they are less resistant to saltwater Ingress, especially budget reels. I have had a Daiwa Certate since 2004 and it is still going strong. I’ve bought a few more and I have every confidence in them! I’ve tried SHIMANO Rareniums, Stradics and the Vandord; but they are so light I doubt they would take a dunking and still function a week later without seizing up. Penn are heavier but more robust. Line lay is awful until you play around with the shims, but once sorted they are workhorses. I agree with you regarding drag. We are highly unlikely to meet a fish that is going to strip meters of line. Also agree with you regarding mono versus fluorocarbon. 10lb Maxima still works and is relatively cheap. Just wish I got to do more fishing; a bit difficult when the sea is 6 hours away! Tight lines
Thank you for your input firstly, it is very much appreciated. The rod question as I am sure you know with the advancements in technology can be percieved differently if someone knows what they are looking for and understands lure casting . This specific response was tailored due to a number of messages I recieved from young anglers that leapt headlong into €200-300 euro reels splurging their birthday and christmas money. Following this kick ass reel with a cheapo Tackle shop rod. Holding in their hands at the end a combo that was expensive but was concerning for me as my thoughts were that they wouldnt recieve the value from the reel in that regard, in relation to the drag question as I discussed in the video. I am delighted that you have taken the time to leave such a comprehensive comment in response to my video. Even more happy that our viewpoints meet so much in the same position. @ Thank you for the reply. Reels are seen as disposable, which is sad. I see many videos on TH-cam recommending cheap to beginners, stating that they can last a season. Perhaps there is some sense to this. Keep the videos coming! I am far from an expert but I fished for bass, mackerel, pollack and cod in the 1980s. I only get to lure fish in the sea a few times a year. Fly fishing is my first love.
@@CJL2008 I can tell you for a fact that thinking in those circles is just consumerism based, and is really taking it way too far. I have kept a "Beginner" daiwa LT 4000 going for 4 years now and given it away so its getting even more use. Runs like a whistle, a little bit of Reel Oil and its good to go. This sort of nonsense notion other channels are pushing that a reel can be for a single season is some of the most backwards, consumerist thinking I have seen in a long time and is mainly an American point of view. Regardless of the lack of frequency in your fishing, I can guarantee you the quality of these new products isnt as much down the gutter as some like to think. There is still light here at the front of the tunnel.

I always enjoy my sessions regardless of catching or not , nothing better than forgetting the stresses and strains of life for a few hours and zoning in on the fishing 👍🏻, i fish lugworm baits on the sand where i am as the water clarity isnt good for spinning, i do spin for silvers in the channel islands though and for me nothing beats a take from a silver taking the lure and yes as well as learning the marks to fish you gotta be very persistent, a lot of us bass anglers are obsessed 😂😂😂👍🏻👍🏻🎣

Wise words . I fished rivers and lochs for 40 years with good success and then for a new challenge decided to chase sea trout and bass in the salt . What a leveller that has been ,blanks aplenty but once you start catching the reward surpasses everything 😁👍it is indeed a bit barrel but so worth it .
Very true, freshwater makes you feel like a legend pulling out all sorts or perch and pike willy nilly and then the salt completely humbles you but the catch is so worth it. Glad you enjoyed the video
