1:30 he should've put the🖕(I have no idea why this is a real thing).
Man I'd love to see more movie satires animated!!!
I laughed out loud when I saw the oxygen TENT (complete with tent spikes) around the Oddfather's face!
What's the song called in 2:01
Now I know where I got my bad attitude from when I was a kid. I still agree with MAD.
Thanx for this!
Looks like first appear of "Tom" from Tom&Jerry and his first "Spike" the Bulldog combat.
It's not as slick as MAD TV but it's definitely inspired... even if the content was taken right out of the magazine! And the lack of commercials remind me of the famous line that was found in every copy, "Advertisers hate us so we get no advertising!" 😉 What, me worry? 😁
Funny how they refer to the technology and gore, but don't even hint at the spiritual aspect. Missed opportunity, be interesting considering Ebert's late-life interest in the movie version of Watchmen and the character of Dr.Manhattan.
A few of these skits are taken directly from the magazine, with some also being remade in MADtv and the 2010 MAD series.
I actually when I was a wee bit of a child and just starting to read thought mad magazine was written for insane people and somehow copies of it were mistakenly delivered to the grocery store. And if you read it a white van truck would pull up with people dressed in white and track down the secret tracking device they have installed in all their magazines and would be carried off to the insane asylum as that is how insane people were found. By "fishing" in the public with a magazine made specifically for insane people. And everyone that was sane knew never to touch one or be hunted down with the fingerprint dust the magazine was also made of to find them through birth certificates. And the only people that could read it were foreigners which were exempted from being thrown into the insane asylum. Being the spoke French or something and wouldn't know the secret method of finding the insane of the USA. And watching Gillian's island seeing wrong way talk meant that people that acted insane were also exempt. But were hunted down for stealing planes because crazy people surely weren't allowed to fly. And that's what wrong way had done was steal a plane but the writers never said that. Not to mention at that age seeing a playboy on the magazine rack or behind a case I thought it was full of mothers who had lost their children or had been kidnapped and were trying to show them parts that only the child would remember so as to be able for their children to identify and point to their mother if found. Turns out neither story was true. The insane story was to keep little kids from picking up the mad magazine and wrinkling it before a buyer could get to it. And playboy well it stole children away from their mothers. 🤷♀️ go figure the USA would allow that.
The audio of this is beyond compare. It's something you would write home about. Who'd think they would go all out in the sound department to make it a listening experience. They spared no expense. Probably costs the people that had subscriptions and were possibly members of some mad club their weekly commissary money they received at the insane asylum.
You could always count on mad magazine having an outdated copy for sale in the airport newspaper shop to read as you waited on somebody to fly in. If I go to the airport to pick some one these days I still go into the newspaper store and look through the magazine section wondering if one has somehow found its way to stay hidden from sale to this day.
1:08 Yay Detroit Michigan! ❤🎉
Go blue!
upload more this was riveting.
Thanks for the video upload! I'm a Gene Deitch fan, it was great to see him interviewed about something other than Nudnik (those were great also but I already watched them).
This is amazing. I've somehow never seen this. They really did a beautiful job on the animations for a TV special. What a great find. Gen-X'er and grew up with Mad. This special premiered the year I was born. lol
1:08 Tesla? 9:59: Mobilphone!
I was barely two in 1974
Awesome
Shows how racist the 70s were!
If this was promoted back in the day like Family guy is today, the world would be a very different place.
👍
MAD needs a comeback. now.
random extreme racism 10:55
Bwahahaha!
At 5:55, that wasn't a doctor putting. It was a UnitedHealthcare agent preparing to deny coverage for their injuries.
Hope it's not considered sacrilege, but someone should run this footage through code that would vectorize every single frame.
The Oddfather bit made me laugh so hard
Boy, this really brings back memories! I used to read MAD as a kid back in the 1970s.
Lol that car skits funny as glad to see nothing changed Ford's still making the same trash except it's evs
I learned how to draw by copying the doodles in the borders of Mad Magazine. To this day I still can't draw very good.
$2000 for a car? FU, the Past.
Wow , The good Old Daze ! :) QC
'If you wanna be a big time criminal like a Govervor or a Senator... '
Took me right back to my grade school days. Me and my friends loved getting the new Mad and felt so grown up when we understood the political and film references. The 70s sure were different from today! A good time to be a kid.
There was a reason this was a magazine. It does not translate well as animation.
God lord! This man’s been run over by a steam roller!
This stuff is very hard to find I'm still looking for Sesame Street Episodes from Seasons 5-24 and 33.
Im 60yrs old and I grew up reading MAD magazine! (and Cracked Magazine for those who remember) There was something about the Artwork that just fascinated me as kid.. and for me the artists for Mad were on the same level as the guys who drew for Stan Lee and Marvel Comics! The detail they would put into people's faces.. especially being able to capture the exact likeness of famous people and celebrities was just AMAZING to me! Mad Magazine made me want to draw.. and become an artist!
Cartoon network remade these scenes in the 2010 version 5:32 10:41 7:10 14:13
For sale😅
Original CinemaScope print is known to exist.
Kids who didn't know what war was must've seen this one back in the days!
