❤❤ 🎉
Outstanding!!! Thank you very much Bernard Flegar!!! When I was a kid I found a (LP) record of Chris Barber at home that my father had bought and inmediately I was fascinated. Chris Barber has been an icon for me for more than 50 years now!!

Like #11 here... I love this documentary, and appreciate its journey from tape, to TV, to VHS, digital media, and finally youtube. Really miss Dick Buckley - best Jazz DJ ever! 29:00 Thanks for posting.
Many years ago spent a great evening in a Soho pub with Pat Halcox. A very interesting man and a great trumpet player, sadly no longer with us.
@@GrahamBishop-y2i Yes. Pat was superb, on and off the bandstand.
Crazy to think about but the first band my dad was in was with Corky Corcoran (late 30’s) and the last was with Jack Perciful and Red Kelly (late 70’s)
Herrlich, positiv, toller Sound - vielen Dank!!
He is so funny this guy he makes me crack up😂
It’s actually a 22 inch thick swish knocker with no rivets
Hard to believe how fast Pollack aged in 10 years since his prominent role playing himself alongside James Stewart in The Glenn Miller Story which was released in 1952. His face is sunken and he has lost most of his hair.
wow...excellent band...1st song, a dixie tune recreated the Quarter and UPTOWN NO for me....I heard and saw PETE FOUNTAIN in his HILTON HOTEL jazz club during MARDI GRAS, 1985...your band was equal !
so cool to see and hear jazz come full circle back to half its roots in european marching music, much of it from GERMANY. LUVED the upright bass dixie solo ...too bad your audience was a bit "anemic".
so cool and creative to play "the man Ilove" as a DIXIELAND piece...sounds good !
Thanks for posting this video! Although I have little comprehension of Deutch and a bit of the smattering of France' I heard, the excellent music is TRANSENDENT !! Bravo to the excellent trumpeter for his BEAUTIFUL SOLO...with great phrasing and tonality...the way I would want to play it on my trumpet !!
Very good, a superb example on how to make a drum clinic. A highly exhaustive orientation by Dick, very well achieved.
Man while wearing headphones you can hear each hit like a *tick* and when cully plays fast it sounds like a machine gun
I love the way Buddy hits the drums. The weight of the arm just falling with no muscle. So heavy.
100, oXFORD sTREET EIN JAZZ PARADIES
Super! RIP.
Phenomenal! Such a great drummer. I would love to have one of those snares for my collection.
Does anyone listening remember the 1950s at the crown hostelry Sunday nights in Mansfield with Eric peat and his good time jazz men?. I do.
Got the Krupa Rich vibe down! 😊
Drums good tempo, ride cymbal and rudimentals. Nice touch also. Thanks😊
This is really a very good band, one that I have not paid sufficient attention to. I have no recordings by this band, but I am going to get some, and soon. My band interest has centered around Buddy Rich, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton and Don Ellis. Another band I like is the Chris McDonald Orchestra; they play mainly gospel selections. I notice in the Harry James Band that there is no guitarist. I wonder why not?
Harry James had a guitarist in the band until 1963. The James rhythm section was brilliant without a guitarist. He dropped the guitarist for financial reasons.
Jo
The one downside to a canister throne is that the height is not adjustable. For drummers with longer or shorter legs or torso, 24" would not work for everyone. This is why even if they were still available I would not choose a canister throne. Another reason is that it won't fold up for convenient transportation of the kit. It's like carrying another drum shell.
YES!!!
Johnny mc callum awsome guitarist RIP
Kapela v tuto dobu byla v plné síle. Na tu dobře pamatuji.Jsem 40caty ročník, nádherná upomínka.Diky moc.😊❤❤
Genial. Unsterblich.
fantastisch. wo sind solche Band's heute?
09:22. mk. ...exactly. Buddy Rich is basically a Magician Dick Cully : Magician's Apprentice ! ...- he's stirring up the Witch's Cauldron - absolute magic
...First off- Thank You Immensely, Dick Cully ! You are a very articulate and passionate drummer / teacher. .Love the 08:05 mk -...very insightful drum practice videos~! Quick Q: ...what is the height of Dick Cully's Hi-Hat ?
@bernhard Thanks for posting this I still have my Dick Cully DVDs
Harry was a amazing player. I have to admit thought that "kiss off" release on nearly every phrase gets a bit irritating. It detracts from such a wonderful sound.
It was part of his identity. No doubt about who is playing.
Miraculously tight band.
Wanderfull❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Danke Bernard! Super Film-Dokument
These guys are from New Orleans, love 'em,😂🎉
Chris Barber and his band were from England but steeped in the tradition of New Orleans traditional jazz.😊

Why would Hogue even say what he said? Love watching and listening to Dick.
Probably because Dick Cully is a superior drummer. If you watch Dick, he has NO wasted motion, NO over exaggerated flailing of his arms. Dick’s arms are close to his body, encouraging proper technique and especially DYNAMICS, which if you watch ( name redacted) you will note the complete opposite! There’s a reason Dick is called The Drummers Drummer, because, simply, HE IS A Real Drummers Drummer. Dick plays similar to Buddy, if someone else isn’t as good, just watch Dick and learn. If one is pompous enough to say Dick is no Buddy Rich, well, I propose, that you simply don’t know Dick Cully!
Still watch'in! Cully is great. Always something to learn.
I'm watch'in!!!
How could there be no comments? I must be shadowed. Dick is amazing.
I never knew this band had such high quality musicians and made such good jazz. I always thought they were just churning out dance dixiland for the crowds. I was wrong.
My favorite James band...Harry and Count Buono doubled the lead at times...Harry's fiery tone and then there's Buddy, the perfect big band sideman. His break at the end of Don't be that way always kills me...plays an unorthodox pick up that would have confused any other band but this one...just F'ing great and his solo on Two O'Clock is one of the greatest solo's every played.
Is Cully actually better than Rich?!
No, but he is getting closer than most.
there is no better- ...just passion and skill- Humans invented the language and the words- they could mean anything
Cully is one of the best drummers I have ever seen, anywhere.
….the answer is to see both players side to side….I think most drummers do not like direct competition but wish to excel at “what” they do best. Let each play for their personality will come out….
