เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 4 พ.ค. 2024
Hi, and welcome to my channel, mainly covering my interests in electronic music hardware and including
a selection of electronic music sounds from old, and new synthesizers. In the future, I also plan to add videos of home built gear, add-ons and simulations of synthesis circuits. Some of the videos will be from live, direct and un-edited synthesizer sequences, so please bear with me on this and look at some of the other stuff as well. I'll add patch sheets and explanations where possible. I'm also planning to put some more esoteric bits onto my channel, such as animations etc (in the "other bits" playlist, possibly). If you like anything on the channel, please subscribe. (if I ever get to making anything from this or related activities at least 10% will got to charity.... so.....) . Thanks.

Dubious Third try out of a Behringer Spice connected to other synths. The video includes the associated patch sheet for the Spice. The Spice clock is synchronised to an Arturia Keystep , but uses its own sequencer. Basic setup: The Keystep is used to sequence a Behringer Proton. Outputs from the Spice are also used to modulate the Proton. The midi our of the Spice sequencer is used to sequence ...

A follow on from a "Behringer Grind Clone, sort of ?" . I've now built the Arduino Nano synth up on some Veroboard to make it more permanent than the original breadboard. I'm trying it out with an AE modular system to add filtering, envelopes, CV conversion and drums. I could probably fit some of this on to the Arduino Nano board, so it would then be a stand-alone synth. There are two examples ...

Hiya, I have a question about the Grind: when filter is in High Pass mode, can you close it and cut all the sound by turning Cutoff fully clockwise/right?
No it doesn't, but when you have it in low-pass mode and turn it fully anti-clockwise it will. Thanks for watching.
@ thank you. Then it’s not a high pass filter and the unit has a fault. Mine does the same, and so one of the advertised features is not working as advertised. Someone on TH-cam needs to point this out to Behringer
Cheers, the Craves filter does the same in high pass mode. It still seems to act like a high pass sort of, but doesn't fully cut-off when fully to the right. It will depend where they have set the cut-off 3dB point at, it may be too low to cut-off all the frequencies. I'd have to have a look in a bit more detail, but I can use it at the moment (mainly use it in low-pass mode though). May be adjustable inside, but I don't really want to have a look yet. Might be worth putting a comment on the Behringer TH-cam channel ?
Just did a quick check on the filter in high-pass mode using the spectrum analyser in Reaper. With a sine wave on the Grind you can attenuate it when the filter is fully to the right, and it seems to be filtering, but not as good as when it is in low-pass mode. Still works OK for me though. I would have to look at the filter topology in more detail, and how they have switched the ladder filter to high-pass mode to get a better picture.
Great jam!!
Cheers, thanks for watching.
Great jam
Cheers, thanks for watching.
I would add some big bass
Cheers, and thanks for watching. Note taken about the Bass. I'll try and do something with more Bass when I get round to it.
Hi. I am trying to understand how this works. Do you have to use the software each time you need a patch? Is that how it works?
Hi, thanks for watching. You don't have to use the software every time for a patch. Different patches can be stored on an SD card, local to the Ksoloti. There is a utility on the patching software that then allows the patches to be selected on the Ksoloti using one of the encoders and the buttons. So it can be used stand-alone with a number of different patches. Oh, and the SD card has to be FAT32 formatted, windows 10 or 11 wont allow you to do this, but there are some 3rd party apps that will. Also I think you may be able to store a few simple patches without using an SD card, but the memory will be quite limited. Hope this helps.
@@tailbiterz thanks very helpful!
@tailbiterz i am very interested but I. On a windows laptop. I don't want to become an IT person to figure out how it works or make it work. I guess I will pass....sadly.
literally do a basic search. it's very easy to do.@@djchemie
Cool jam !🍻
Cheers.
Nice videos, what do you think to get the pest and patch with the Edge??
Cheers, might try it out when i can get round to it.
Now I want one 😐
Cheers for watching, I hope you get one soon.
I have the grind and the spice, not even scratched the surface on them both yet, this video is very insightful and inspiring.
Cheers for the comment and thanks for watching. Good luck with the Grind and the Spice.
seems the spice gonna be the game changer for edge sound modulation? 🙈😮 very cool - thanks for sharing!
Cheers. Going to try and add the Grind and some other synths in later on. Didn't know if I would like the Spice or even wanted one, but it seems to have potential.
Just a comment from me. I do actually have a Behringer Grind, and I would have got an AE Modular Grains as well, but I thought I'd have a go at building something. I like having ready built gear but it is good to build stuff as well.
wow - cool sounds! 😉👍
Cheers and thanks for watching.
How do these compare?
Hi, The Novation Peak is a very powerful and versatile hybrid synth. It has very powerful modulation routings along with good wavetable capable oscillators. Its one of my favourite synths. But it was only used for some background noise in the video. The Korg DW-800 is really good as well, especially for an early 80's synth. It has powerful multi stage envelopes, good wavetable digital oscillators and after that, the rest, I think, is analogue, although the analogue portions are digitally controlled. Most of the controls on the Peak are knob-per-function, not a lot of menu diving required. The DW-8000 has a single slider / buttons for all of the parameters. You use buttons to change the parameter number, and then use a slider to alter its value. It's relatively easy when you get used to it. The DW-8000 is hard to get hold of now, and old, but I think the Korg Wavestate is their new issue. Might not be the answer you were getting at, but they are both very good synths, and I like them a lot. Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you can.
@@tailbiterzthanks for your reply. The Peak is definitely more capable synth. More features and possibilities. But the DW 8000 sounds more alive and definitely more analog. Even though both are hybrid synths. I have an OBX8, Moog Muse and a behringer pro one. Want to add a hybrid synth for more softer sounds and for layering with the other 2 poly. But to my ears, despite its limitations the Korg seems to blend better with the other 2 since they also have that distinctive vintage sounds.
Really nice, have you probe the dreadbox typhon? Would you recomend it with the Edge or the minibrute 2 s?
Cheers for the comment. Sorry, I haven't got a Dreadbox typhon, but the reviews and sounds look pretty good for it. I like the Edge and the Minibrute 2S, I think they would both work well with the Typhon. But it depends on what you want to do... the Edge is more rhythm focussed and has an Analogue type sequencer, the Minibrute has a more advanced sequencer (but it depends on the way you think) and you could use it to control other midi synths. Minibrute also has velocity sensitive pads etc. Try looking at the online manuals and demos of them and it should give you a better idea.
which cables are that (the ones at the front plugged in)
Hi, thanks for watching. The included patch sheet should show what is connected. The cables are 3.5mm mono to mono jack plug cables.
Liked the part at 4 mins slowed down in yt and wanted to sample that 😊 thanks iloveACID 🎅
Excellent stuff, glad you liked it. Good luck with the sampling. Do you think anyone would be interested in some sample packs ?
Awsome stuff thanks from iloveACID
Cheers for watching. Working on a few more patches over the next few days.

Cheers, thanks for watching.
Just finished building a mess of an oscillator and trying it out. The video shows some of the simulations and builds.🙂 Also noticed at the end, it should be "some kind of digitally controlled oscillator" and not "king". Sorry.
All them sockets to plug wires in randomly to see what happens excites me
Cheers, thanks for watching. I'll try to put some patch sheets up soon.
I have had my Proton and a kobol Expander for a little bit. These 2 are great together. I like the quick patches you got going on the Proton after just receiving it. Sequencing from the Arturia Keystep?
Hi, thanks for watching. I was using the arp on the keystep a bit and I also used an old Roland MC-505 for sequencing. I'll hopefully use it a bit more over the next few weeks.
Hello, nice sound! Could you share how you sync those 3 together? I am having a nightmare trying to . Thanks, keep up!
Hi, Sorry about the delay, I was off doing something else. Most of the time, I'm using an Arturia Keystep as a Midi sequencer and then using that to drive the Edge, Crave and Grind. If you want to sync the internal sequencers in the Grind and Crave to an external midi source there are some settings in the software app that can be used. I've also used the synths with the stand-alone sequencers...... I think if you connect the Craves gate output to the Edges trigger input you can get the Edge to sync to the Crave ... actually it might be the Edges ADV/ClK input, but I cant remember at the moment. If you just try the cable out in each one, you'll find out. Oh, you also have to have the Edges clock switch set to INT/EXT. When I get round to it, I'm going to upload some videos with combined patch sheets. They may include some non-midi sync connections. Hope this is of some use. Please subscribe if you can.
Superdope !
Excellent ! Cheers for watching.
Where u r got gring?:)
Got the Grind at Andertons.
Very nice!
Cheers, thanks for watching.
I Will buy the l apilable long cables with 2 inputs and outputs each. How should i to use this cables? For example to get the assing output from the grind on the Edge and the grind. Should i Connect assing output to one input on the grind, but on the Edge should i Connect that one on the inputs or outputs? or doesnt Matter?Only matters on one only synth? Really thanks, i Will apreciate a lot this information.
You can buy splitters to allow one output to connect to multiple inputs. Depending on the splitter type (i.e. if it has no protection) don't try and connect two outputs to one input as it might short the outputs together. The way I connected things was with the pitch output going to both the OSC1 and OSC2 CV inputs. If you have the Crave as well you can use the MULT function for this as well. If you did want to connect two outputs to one input you would need to make a passive or active CV mixer. Search "Passive fixed CV mixer" . Hope this helps a bit.
Unless you can confirm otherwise, only really connect outputs to inputs, whether it is on the same synth or another synth. You should be OK connecting an output from the Edge to an input on the Grind. Double check to manual though as it has allowable levels etc at the end.
@tailbiterz really thanks, cant input from grind to input of Edge so. That is what i was looking for. And could make one input from Edge to one output to the Edge And the same input to one output to the grind? So one synth with 1 input to the output on two synths, or to the same one but 2 outputs, that with the stackable cables or with the splitter? I really apreciate.
WICKED JAM Dude 🎉😊...... I'm in London and pre ordered the GRIND a month ago, how did you get yours Bro..😮...❤🎉jaffa Jenkins Dawless jams 🎉😊
Think I must have pre-ordered it about the same time. I thought I'd have to wait until sometime next year, but it just turned up ! Thanks for the comments as well.
Hope you get yours soon !
Forgot to say I got mine from Andertons.
@@tailbiterz thanks so much my man,, I haven't been this excited about a Synth for ages, 🔊 Sounds so good,, I ordered with,, gear for music, for the 1st time,, Really glad it's not next year,, thanks again Bro. Jaffa jenkins jams.....my channel...
😊 just having a listen at your stuff. Subbed
What kind of patches could i make between this two to get organic sounds and secuences? Really thanks
I don't know, just play around with stuff unit you get what you like.
WoW really good sounds and secuences! It has a lot of dinamism i Will try someones but i havent keystep, i Will use the synthribe to charge secuences, It IS worthy the arturia keystep?
The Arturia Keystep is good and worthwile getting as it has a cv output... useful for your modular gear.
Hey as long as you're not biting my tail!! Haha😜 Killer jam, I can't wait to Grind my teeth! 😁🐀
Cheers for the comment and thanks for watching hope you get your Grind soon.
Nice video i have both but idk how to Sync tempo between them, thanks. I have the volca Drum Synced with the edge vía adv clock Edge.
If you're not using midi, try trigger on Edge to Osc trig on Grind.
@tailbiterz i use assing from grind to tempo of Edge and It works
Y get mine! With the edge, how do you altern the banks sounds? I cant see the secuencer active in your video, thanks
Hi, Not sure if you've sorted this yet. But I used the CV outputs from an Arturia Keystep, so the keystep was syncing via midi using the KS sequencer. I've also used the pitch output from the Edge to change the models -> into CV mix1 then VC mix out into OSC MODEL. Also used KB CV from the Grind in the same way. The grind sequencer can then be used to control the OSC MOD. Hope this helps a bit. Should be a better description and patch sheet on the long form videos.
@tailbiterz really thanks, ill try this things, and how i Sync tempo between the Edge and the grind?
Enjoy 😊
Cheers, thanks for watching.
Came for the Behringer Grind video, stayed for a few more. Intriguing sonic sensibilities here, to be sure. Subscribed.
Cheers, thanks for the comment, and watching and subscribing. Just trying to make sounds that I like really, in the hope that someone else might like them.

Where are you getting these? Looks like they won't be available until next year here in Scotland.
Got mine from Andertons. Took a while though, but I thought it'd be a lot longer. Hope you get one soon.
@@tailbiterz Ordered one tonight, arrives on Saturday. Great. Cheers.
Nice demo, incorporating the patching. On Try 6, I notice the patch / bank LEDs jumping around. Are you able to use the patch bay to randomise the bank selection?
Hi, Thanks for watching. Yes you can control the model change at least as there is an "OSC MODEL" input. I think this may change the bank as well if the input change range is large enough, but I'm not sure about this yet. I want to set up some other modular gear or microcontrollers to change the model in a controlled manner, and then scale and change the presets to provide some sort of weird sequencing. All the Best
What is the USB for? Can you do MIDI over usb?
The usb seems to work to update firmware and also change some of the hidden parameters. Not sure about the midi functionality, but I'll have a look at it in the manual or check it out later. Thanks for watching.
Hi, I've just looked at the USB port on the Grind. It seems that It cant be detected for USB MIDI. Tried in Reaper, wouldnt detect as a USB device, but I could have been doing something wrong. I seem to remember the same thing happened with the Crave, Edge etc. The USB port does allow you to change parameters (I think some can also be changed via midi 5-pin using sysex commands). If you download the newest Synthtribe app from Behringer, the Grind is detected over USB. It seems you can then update firmware, and change parameters like clock sync etc. You can also load the sequencer using a piano roll interface. Finally there is an option for presets that allows saving and loading, I don't know how this works yet though. Hope this helps a bit. All the Best.
@@tailbiterz so i found the manual and it says USB von do midi in / out
Hi, Thanks for letting me know.
Hi Just checked again, got the midi in / out working over USB. I had the wrong settings in my DAW, I hadn't enabled a new device in Reapers preferences. Probably because I use 5-pin midi most of the time. Cheers, all the best.
Love the 3rd patch ! ❤
Excellent, thank you.
here in Italy it is not yet on sale😑
Hi, Thanks for watching. I hope you get one soon. I didn't think I would get mine as soon as I did.
So much potential on this synth!
Thanks, I really like it. Getting ready to try some cross patching with it.
You said it Brother...😂...I pre ordered mine 3 weeks ago but still don't know when there being dished out...😮.🎉Jaffa jenkins jams 😊
The Chord Mode is a real attraction for this synth.
Hi, Thanks for the comment. I've only looked at the chord mode briefly at the moment, but it does look interesting. I want to try and do a patch that will sequence through the chord modes and make some sense. Think I might have to connect up something externally to do this though.... or at least add an attenuator and level shifter to one of the Grinds outputs.
@tailbiterz Attenuator? Is it not loud enough? My Edge and my Crave are both plenty loud.
It not the loudness I'm worried about, an attenuator would reduce that anyway. What I would want the attenuator and offset control for is to allow me to alter one of the CV outputs, (offset and scale) so that it would give me a controllable chord change. I think the chord change control for the chord mode is the "OSC HARM" input (perhaps the Timbre control as well). I might try and program up a microcontroller at some point to control the inputs for the chord parameters. Hope this sort of makes sense.
@tailbiterz Sounds like fun, hope you post a tutorial on that.
Yeah it will be when I get round to it ! I will try and do a video of it as well. Cheers.
Ab 7:55 kommen sehr interessante sounds . Kommen direkt Ideen!! Geile Kiste 🔥🔥🔥
