Rafiq's Journey from Devastation to Hope: Rebuilding a Life After Tragedy
On October 13, 2024, Bahraich was shaken by a brutal wave of violence that specifically targeted the Muslim community. During a Durga Puja procession, communal songs were played near the Jama Masjid, sparking intense tensions that quickly escalated into widespread violence. Among the victims was Rafiq, a differently-abled man who relied on his E-Rikshaw to support his family. In the chaos, a violent Hindutva mob set his E-Rikshaw on fire, leaving him devastated and uncertain about how he would continue to provide for his loved ones.
But hope wasn’t lost. Through the incredible support of our donors, Miles2Smile was able to step in and fulfill our promise to Rafiq. Alhamdulillah, we’ve helped him get back on his feet with a brand-new E-Rikshaw, restoring his livelihood and his hope for the future.
