A great and informative video, it's always a pleasure to hear Damiano speak so passionately about San Vivaldo! I totally agree that tourism needs to be encouraged to lesser known gems like this. How, I'm not so sure. I think that short stays in famous cities should be discouraged in favour of longer stays at agriturismi or small country hotels. Also, a regional promotion of the wider Tuscany via apps, international TV advertisements etc. would showcase these places to a much wider audience. International schools and universities should do more to promote genre/subject specific locations to their engaged audience so that they can select travel destinations based on personal interest rather than fame alone. I do think that many tourists need to 'do their bit' as well, by better educating themselves on local customs, traditions, history and culture before travelling, not least because it might stop people ordering cappuccino after dinner!! Ultimately, spreading tourism more thinly would ensure that lesser known places receive their audience, whilst combating the problem of over-tourism in the 'famous' locations. I can say that as a Brit, it was only by accident that I found out what an agriturismo was (I'm so glad I did though), and my knowledge of the lesser known areas of Tuscany was largely passed on by Damiano and through joyous exploration of the area. To highlight a point, In UK travel publications, Lucca is often described as a 'hidden gem' of Tuscany. As beautiful as Lucca is, it is certainly is not hidden, and this illustrates the issue with Tourism in it's present guise.
