DIY Climbing Shoe Resole - How My First Pair Turned Out
มุมมอง 6Kปีที่แล้ว
After tons of research sleuthing the internet and watching other climbing shoe resole videos, I attempt to resole my own pair of worn out Five Ten Moccasyms. As some may know, the original Moccasyms have been discontinued and are somewhat of a rarity now. Although a bit sloppy, I can see room for improvement on future resoles and have really come to appreciate the craft of shoe cobblers. In the...
For making the last, what about freezing a bag of water in the shoe and then using that to cast a mould for a last (might save a lot of time)
If there’s a good mould material that isn’t exo/endothermic so it can cure in a freezer with the ice last. Once it sets you can just remove it, let the ice last melt for easy removal and casting as well
Do you know where I can buy rubber to resole in EU ?
thanks for the video. good result
As someone who has spent the last 6 months trying to figure out how to do this myself, I appreciate you posting this. There is a brick wall of information regarding climbing shoe repair and this is by far the best guide on how to do it yourself.

A bit rough - but a decent effort.
Great job! I think about making a last of the front of the foot, not the entire foot. So it will fit into the shoe (hopefully). How do they climb and would you change any of the procedure in future ? Cheers!
Just made one using a spring - took an old spring last and reshaped the toe to fit my Evolv Shamans. Helps keep the curve while setting, or so I assume, im headed to grind the new sole down in a bit here, well see if it makes a difference.
Reshaping an existing last sounds pretty good! I just made my last by pouring cement into a condom and pressed that into the first 7 cm of the shoe. Pretty solid result
legend
I also want to know about how you made the last? Foot? Shoe? General shape to add volume to keep shoe rigid during repair? I would love to chat about the resources you discovered in your online search
I followed the outline of the shoe's sole and then gradually reduced the volume by eye. Feel free to message me for anything
How much thought went into making your last? Did you make it based on the shoe, your foot, or just eyeball the shape and make it work?
At first I followed the shape of my foot but quickly realized if I did it would not fit into the shoe. So then I traced the outline of the shoe's sole and then shaped the volume gradually by eye
How'd they climb?
They climb well! They're holding up very nicely
Well done! seeming someone else do it makes it seem a lot more approachable.
