Not supposed to coil up coax cable it creates a magnetic field.
@@richardsmith7330 The "RF Choke" is to prevent coax feedline from conducting common-mode current (and by extension becoming part of the antenna). Coaxial line can be made to act as an choke without using ferrite material. Many VHF installs have a loop or two included at the end of feedline/base of antenna for this purpose. A couple of snap over ferrite beads could also do the trick. Consult ARRL antenna book, common-mode choke. But, generally speaking you're correct. One wouldn't want coax coiled up Willy-Nilly.

Another oldie but goody, the truck drivers love them. The only problem wth the truck drivers was, they would tighten up the mounting screws so much, they would pull the legs of the reg off the board. lol

@@LeapFrog_Radio ya I noticed that from gatekeepers cobra25 variable mod vid, but I see where you placed the cap so this is where I'm going to install G.K.s mod & run it to the RF gain pot.
The scope tells me that this one will kick azz.

It was the FT Camper Crew, but I'm thinking as long as I stick to repairs of old Cobra radios they will leave me alone. I don't claim to hot rod the radios, nor I claim that my "tune" is even a thing, because an alignment is not a "tune".

ceramic caps are dying in these now too. Especially in the power supply and the rectifier area and the final area.

@@LeapFrog_Radio well you seem to know the basics of the board and it's functions that control the scanner and I do believe that this is where my problem is considering my brand new late anniversary gift being a uniden handheld scanner is in 2 halves. You are a genius in my eyes lol. I am completely dumbfounded on the whole function of the board. And my problem is when I try to put the 2 halves back together and power it up I'm getting nothing. But with a slight wiggle which I can't place my finger on it, it's like something isn't lining up just right.
@@philipbenoit1468 I don't have any experience with the handheld series of scanners, but this definitely reads like a connector or cable not making contact. If the unit uses ribbon cables to make connections, the kind that slide in place; I'd check those carefully. Sometimes they have a plastic clip that locks the ribbon in place, if the clip breaks it's a real pain!

@@philipbenoit1468 Yeah, you've to be careful when opening units like that. I learned the hard way back in high school working on a Mac laptop, the mouse pad used a ribbon cable for connection, I busted the plastic clip and wasn't able to repair the connector, now a days if you can salvage the part off a scrap unit, you may be able to replace it... but I wasn't able to fix the laptop's mouse pad. : / If the clip isn't broken (assuming they used that style of connector) be sure the cable is actually all the way in, as that can cause this issue too.

That Rev Bow guy is pretty shady.... Appreciate the Shout Out. Sign me up for one of these If you do it correctly, you can get some damn fine audio with a modified Mic audio chain in the radio, and a slightly modified CB mic... You need to get lower than the 300Hz limit in the Mic Preamp circuit
I've gotten down to about 20 Hertz, I love playing with this modification! Thank you for sharing your idea on the internet.

You can omit the two "0.1 Ohm" resistors if you are going to run a single final output regulator. You can get by with just a buffer, regulator, diode, and resistors; if you already have an 8 volt source that is.

No smoke! Forced asymmetrical audio?
Yeah no smoke, LOL. The modulator can be adjusted for more or less asymmetry, you could use external processing; I was using a 1 KHz test tone through the mic. Plans include use of a P.C. for digitally processed audio.
This was with a low carrier voltage, when I increase the DC Voltage at the base of the modulator, (and AF peaks, boy!!) that really wakes up the RF section. Just gotta keep in mind the audio amplifier section + modulator have to interact with the RF section, it's a complex reality but you want all three sections to play well with each other, like a well oiled machine.
The awesome COBRA 2000GTL, one of the best CB base stations ever made! The fact your counter is following your channel selector is a good thing, it means the counter is working as it should, the LED's on the other hand could be as you said bad solder joints. Could also be faulty wiring between the counter and the display, could also be a faulty display board or voltage regulation problem in there someplace. In any event, great video update, keep them coming. :-)

I agree 100%, i tend to take a lot of stuff to heart that i should not. Can't help it, just the way i am i guess. I need to grow a very THICK skin and ignore the BS out there, many people over the years have advised me to do it. :-)
hFe is a parameter that only applies to BJT's, if anyone is beta matching MosFets, don't "pay attention" to what they say, simply run away!
I'm suggesting that one or two people who act like they are the only ones that "know" actually are misleading people "pay attention" to his act, he is a real clown, Fets aren't rated in hFe.

I Apologize for the Glitched-Out Audio! @4:39 I said "an hour and a half" what I meant to say was "half an hour to 45 minutes" for the wax removal. The PCB cleaning with 91% iso-alcohol takes a little longer because I wait for the solvent to evaporate in-between cleaning passes, & yeah incase anyone is wondering... What did you do for your rf sampler? I’ve been meaning to do the same but haven’t got around to it. I’ve got that same meter here and a scope. What components did you use for sampling? Just a bnc and wire wound around the input? Show me please lol

There is an old trick i used to do that is very much like this. Used to take a big square of 1/4 steel plate. Least 12x12.. Weld a coupler to it that you can slide the pipe in. Toss it in back of the pickup truck. Drive up a big mountain. Toss the plate on the ground and roll the tire of the pickup over it. Put the antron up 20 feet. Talk DX all day.... Break it down and toss it in the back when done... You could park a wheel on that as well....

every one I seen of the 427 the meter was stuck
ᗒ╬ᗕ1112223333111ᗒ╬ᗕ I ended up changing the meter, used a cool white l.e.d. I couldn't find the double control pot in time, this radio is out in service (with the tone control inside) The A.M. guys on CB in USA tend to love "swing" but I set this up to produce a lower p.e.p. output while still being variable (clean and mean!) I made the clear knob glow red during transmit instead of the modulation indicator idea! I love the Uniden made Realistic radios, they are almost on the same level as Cobra for the time period (p.c. boards in many models share the same layout) Thanks for stopping by, 73!
