Hey Kebbie, My take is that universe beyond ruins the nostaliga vibe and also redicules the game. On facebook I see all these people buying these cards, but they are mostly commander players.. a format that I cant take serious in any way shape or form. I always ask people why dont you vote with your wallet and their response is we do.. as in they like the products .. they want a spiderman commander.. Its silly to me.. but I see this kind of stuff so often that I feel like im the strange one and the masses like this? A new format always sounds good, cause you cannot depend on wizards as the games interest dont align with wizards lining their pockets.

How will you stop cheaters from cheating. How are you going to charge for tournaments? There is a lot of financial unknowns? I would like to see where the idea goes.

Unfortunately Soulflayer won't get menace as it wasn't a keyword back in FRF days so not listed, cool list though haven't played it since B Overlord printed. Soulflayer has a place in my heart drawing G3 with a friend on Merfolk final round for joint 1st & 2nd in modern at the last GP in NZ March 13-15 2015, I still have the pin! Players coming over and seeing vault skirge next to Sylvan Caryatid asking what format is even this. Got the last few cards I needed to finish affinity & a scourge of the thrones.Then a 0-X with nivmagus elemental ground rift combo the next day, magic memories <3.

I played around with building a mono B Soulflayer list today as a budget friendly deck. It basically the standard mono B mana base (locthwein/field of ruin) with disruption and removal. Also Zombify is in foundations and probably the best recursion spell for this build. I am also considering a sideboard juke with 4 Bloodletters/4 Slashers, although this would make the deck more expensive.

The second deck is quite similar to 4c legends, a pre-rotation standard deck I played at a RC this spring. The combo is quite convoluted, but basically with honest rutstein, the acererak cost only 2 and with relic and rona you can cast it infinitely to win the game. What's really complicated is that you can setup this win with (sometimes non-deterministic) loops involving chaneling a bunch of legendary lands and getting it back with slogurk, which also needs the rona/relic engine. It's quite hard to play the deck, it took me a while to play it good and I still made 2-3 mistakes.

Just started playing Pioneer after a long break from magic, I always played abzan so I stumbled over here and feel like I'm right at home. Sick deck.

I think the better way would be adding them like kaijus in ikoria, same card but with different name and art. Just put one in every booster like mythical archives and everybody wins. People who wants to play with them can and people who don't don't. They're printed only on most powerful cards/high impact cards so people dont feel bad running them in their decks, and other have more of most powerful cards so their prices are lower. Also I think they should go back to 2 sets in a block. It follows the basic principle of story telling, set up and payoff.

IMO they should have had a UB eternal format and the regular formats where UB is not legal (I guess they would still be legal in Commander even if I don't like it). Putting the cards in a rotating format like Standard is not going to keep those new players engaged when their fav IP set rotates out. It's also not great if their fav IP deck isn't competitive at all. If UB eternal starts getting more popular than Pioneer and/or Modern, then we can talk about a format with both real Magic and UB.

Just split standard into UB and non-UB. Simplest solution that fixes multiple problems.

I’ve been slowly selling out of pioneer. when card prices spike, I sell my staples. This news only confirms my desire to get away from pioneer (modern and standard have been dead to me for a few years). Been playing pauper the past months month and having a blast!

You could also try out premodern as a refuge from UB. I might actually set up an MTGO account, lol. But yeah I've looked for MTG substitutes and nothing comes close.
