VINTAGE BIKE MALVERN STAR RESTORATION by COOPOLI
มุมมอง 2.7K9 ปีที่แล้ว
The year was 1977 and I received my first Malvern Star, those days have passed and so has the bike, but when I saw this bike in the rubbish how could I just drive passed.
Dinky Restoration
มุมมอง 27K10 ปีที่แล้ว
I restore battered and broken vintage Dinky Toys from the 1930's to the 1960's. In a time when children used their imagination to play!

    I watched this with the volume off...the music is distracting from enjoying the video.. It didn't show how the h adbadge was removed. Didn't show how stickers were put on But nice turn out.

    The seat stem and handlebar stem are very similar to the Harry Quinn racer I owned in the 80s that was used professionally prior. Unfortunately, I had to dump it as I was between places in the 90s. Miss that bike 😢.

    Wow good job, that came out amazing. Did the rust just sand off or did you have to do something else to treat it? Also how did you restore the head badge or did you just replace it with a new one?

    Yes, ridiculous music. How is this a Ciocc? I see Tange steel and from what I have seen, Ciocc uses Columbus steel. Just wondering. Bike looks good though.

    These are very nice! Job well done. Although most of these are customized, not restorations. Restorations are painted the original color with any original style decals (if applicable.)

    Great to resurrect these amazing toys. It’s a shame they don’t make them any longer. I notice the colour of the restoration is sometimes completely different. Artistic freedom?

    Coopoli is a father and son team that repairs and restores old bicycles to teach my son the art of cycling mechanics. We find old bikes nobody wants and turn them into something special, well they are to us anyway!

    To be honest I find myself quite torn between preserving a play worn patina and a well done restoration. Both have their pros and cons. Anything is only original once and took decades to get the patina whereas a mint looking one is just that, mint, but with all the personality removed. I resolved this by having at least two of everything! One worn, one mint. Everyone spends more time looking at and talking about the worn ones. Maybe they are more welcoming and achievable? Ok to touch without fear of doing damage? Me,I love them to bits!

    Thank you for the restoration and for sharing. I enjoyed watching. I too had a Malvern Star as my first bike in the 1970s. I've heard it said that 'vintage' restorations are about passing things on to future generations. Well done. Although that makes me feel quite old. And a question: Why no mudguards? Mine had them as does yours in the final photo. EDIT: At the very start of the video, there are short mudguards shown. Back in the 70s I had fashioned ones similar from my old full-size ones.

    • @alexgarner3575

      I am also interested in the painting process

    • @coopolicyclers9606
      @coopolicyclers9606 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Alex Garner I use a epoxy paint with a spray gun.it is a long process but first I use a etch primer, one coat then sand 1200 grit wet and dry sand paper.put one more fine coat of primer and let dry for one day or so.then I mix the paint with thinners and apply a dust coat .this is a very fine coat that should look like dust over the area and once that has started to dry I apply more coats very lightly every hour and about three coats.this will give a very high gloss but will take about 3-4 days to dry.Hope that helps
