Why ignore Screen Memories, Addendum and A Collection of Rarities and Previously Unreleased Material? The songs on Screen Memories and Addendum were more complex then his earlier songs and thus I can imagine that that plays a part in why you maybe didn't like them, but give them a few more listens, it is definitelly worth it. Screen Memories is for me a 10/10 while Addendum and the collection album are 9/10's. The only reason I would have to give them a score lower then ten is that they both contain like one song I usually skip.
@@adamlindfors5082 to be honest my original omission of screen memories was mostly due to laziness, I think I wrote something about it on the script but it didn't carry over to the video. But I did for a long time not like Screen Memories that much tho I've come to see it as a great album. I still think it has a couple of misses towards the end but great album nevertheless. I have only listened to Addendum one time and didn't pay much attention to it but I will check it out again.
@@pineappleman Ok, I understand. I do agree with you that "We must become the pitiless cencors of ourselves" is his best album. It just perfectly captures the otherwordly, dreamlike, melancholic and beautiful feeling that the album cover induces in me. The album transports me to the lighthouse, all alone, a loneliness that is comforting. I dealt with loneliness as I first listened to this album and still do, but this album made it feel more okay.

When I first listened to John maus I was immediately reminded of the punk band called The Damned and their lead singer Dave Vanian. They two also have that medieval type of feel in some of their songs and their slow songs really remind me of maus. It would be so cool if they did a collaboration song. Listen to 13th Floor Vendetta
maus sounds more like sisters of mercy (the earliest stuff, but Flood II has that medieval chant charm to it) and the stranglers (golden brown genuinely sounds like a maus song) than anything. possibly unintentionly through hanging around ariel so much. i can hear some legendary pink dots too. but its like those ariels influences filtered through his own weird take on pop

Panchiko is maybe a little overrated, but their story is so cool and they honestly were doing some pretty fresh stuff for a bunch of teenagers just fucking around. Yes it’s a lil derivative of OK Computer, but it uses that inspiration as interesting creative fuel rather than just trying to copy Radiohead’s homework. Idk, overall I think they deserve the hype considering how things have turned out for them. I’m seeing them tonight, and I’m really curious to see how these middle aged dudes will translate their angsty teenage songs to a live performance.

Hey, screw you for number 3 (because it is a little too true). She is actually a pretty good artist though imo. I think her losing some of her popular following has helped her focus more on the jazzy esque art. Also, as you said, pop overall has become better.

I legit discovered John Maus through a youtube made mix of one of Vargskelethor’s Super Ghostbusters songs and his music has been ear glazingly good, i will say. Interesting to see him in another perspective, though.

agree that she's a bit of an underdog, or a "well-kept secret," and also that her music is just good, because it is. but i also think there's something really compelling about her storyline. that all her albums kinda follow this structure of wanting but not taking, that she's stuck in some sort of loop and trying to get out of it. she seems like an awkward extrovert, and you can't help but root for her.

Men are lonely and Carly is the only reason a lot of us believe in love. It's not THAT simple, but it's a huge part of it.
Carly Rae Jepsen is adorkable, and not as out there interesting or social saavy as her other contemporaries. The fact she is not huge as a pop artist is part of her appeal tbh... if she was as popular as say Taylor Swift... I doubt the same people would love her. She has a weird indie like cred for a pure pop artist. She started off doing pop rock on a canadian label that was not that huge at the time but Justin Bieber blew her up to be bigger than she could probably handle... and that humbleness to her is what makes her appealing I guess. And EMOTION is probably one of the best pure pop records of the 2010's.
