    Yes, basketball has become more like football. That happened because the referees have allowed too much physical contact. I coached AAU & high school basketball and I know referees call games according to how the NBA does. The NBA is so physical it's not basketball anymore. So, the same has happened in college for both men & women and also in high school. It is ruining the game. The beauty about basketball is it is all about athleticism. That is a thing of the past because now bullies have taken over the game. I'd rather watch pro wrestling and & hate that so-called sport. Geno is CORRECT. Referees do NOT call games according to the rule book anymore. What a shame. Referees have destroyed the best game ever invented. One more thing that would improve basketball is to change the stupid offensive charging call. Instead of making a defensive player establish a "guarded position", the foul should be called on the player that initiates contact. I have seen many fouls called on the defender when retreating away from the offensive player and all the contact was made by the offensive player who is acting like a football running back. It's ridiculous.

    I think for Caitlin this is just fine, she already has a lot of great things going on- for the wnba though this is a loss, it could have helped their marketing so much- probably putting her and angel reese on the team would have generated a lot more interest for the wnba.

    Clark becomes the fourth WNBA player to put up 50points or more, 15assists or more in their first three games in the league. May 18th 2024 Clark drops 22points, 8assist, 6rebounds, 1steal in the same game reigning MVP Breana Stewart puts up 24points, 5rebounds, 3assists. It's as if Clark has a price on her head and every team is throwing everything they have at her the moment she touches the ball including full court press to double teaming, has any other WNBA player faced this level of defensive attention?

    0:10 What I’ve noticed is that women’s college (and pro) basketball is going through the same growing pains that men’s basketball went through. There is a finesse way to play basketball, and there’s a physical way to do it. It really depends on the coach and the talent they recruit. Certain teams (UCONN, Stanford, Iowa, Iowa State) play a cutting, ball movement style. Other teams (South Carolina, Texas, Miss State, Tennessee, Notre Dane) play a more inside-out offense/ physical defense style. Both are ok, but when tournament time comes the referees preset to let the players decide the outcome of games, with the finesse style suffering. Just like the NBA, the WNBA and women’s college basketball will eventually gravitate towards the more finesse style, because more players can play it, and the fans prefer to watch it. I liked both the Isaiah Thomas Detroit Pistons and Steph Curry Golden State Warriors, but the Warriors are more fun to watch and appeal to a broader audience.

    • @JustMe-ne3rh
      @JustMe-ne3rh 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      With respect, I disagree. Referees do not call basketball according to the rule book. They allow far too much contact. It's a "non-contact" sport. But referees have ruined the sport because they won't call all fouls. By doing so, they have allowed basketball to become a full contact sport. It's sad.

    • @ralphjefferson6773
      @ralphjefferson6773 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JustMe-ne3rh did you play the game? Basketball has ALWAYS been a contact sport. What are “screens?” What is a a “box out?” Are you currently watching the Olympics? @@ralphjefferson6773 Yes, I played high school basketball and I also coached AAU & high school basketball. The contact events you described can get physical, and that is when referees need to call fouls. But, in today's game there is far more contact than what you mentioned and that is what Geno, myself, and others are talking about. Do you know what "cheap shots" are? Did you play basketball? • @Newportnews98

      That’s the dumbest shit I’ve ever herd. To say the chronic isn’t a classic when it started a whole new sound and wave of hip hop that is still prevalent to this day is crazy. And also dr Dre is a producer not a rapper and ppl knowing him not writing his stuff is old news. By that logic Michael Jackson doesn’t have a classic album because a lot of his songs were written by someone else.

  • @windel12002
    @windel12002 ปีที่แล้ว

    You're wrong bro. Geno is a great coach but he's not perfect. They coach he is today is not the same coach that won his first National Title back in 1995. He has evolved. He's had problems beating certain teams in the past. Notre Dame, with Ruth Riley. In spite of the Star athletes on his squad he had no one who could stop her. Years later, Notre Dame again dominated UCONN in the regular season and the post season and were on a collision course to meet in the NCAA Tournament. A friend of mine who is a Student of the Game sent a message to one of the Assist. Coaches on what to do to beat Notre Dame. Geno did it and they won and went on to win the National Championship. What he's talking about is the game is moving from basketball to a bunch of brutes getting away with murder. It's one thing to be physical. It's another when you're deliberately trying to hurt and/or intimidate your opponent. It's not just South Carolina, Tennessee, other schools are playing that way as well. In the Battle 4 Atlantis UCF did their best to rough up Paige Beckers, and if you watched the game you could see all the physical bumps, hip checks, hits. One could tell that she was so beat up that she wasn't going to have a good game against SC. Here's the deal....and it's just my opinion. If the NCAA doesn't stop all the rough, physical play, you're going to see more & more young women having career ending injuries, season-ending injuries, etc...and you're going to start seeing more & more physical altercations either on the court, or when they're going through the line at the end of the game. It's amazing how these Referees allow this to go on. Someone gets hacked, or as Azzi Fudd's injury this past season she was cutting to the corner and the Maryland player stuck her leg out and caught the side of Azzi's knee. This put her out of action until the end of the season. No foul called. If Officials called the fouls when there are fouls, and not the little ticky tack stuff that they like to blow their whistles on (while bigs like Boston camp out in the lane for 5 - 6 seconds without 3-sec. violation being called), the game would be much better. Same for the NBA. It's gotten to be Rough House...and soon, people will stop watching.

    • @JustMe-ne3rh
      @JustMe-ne3rh 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well said and I agree 100%. The referees have stopped calling games according to the rule book. If they would, of course there would be many more fouls. Some say that slows the game down. Even if that's true, I'd rather see that then rugby and players getting hurt just so the big bullies can win. IMO if referees would call all fouls according to the rule book, players would be forced to clean up their act and stop being bullies. The games would be more enjoyable to watch. Otherwise, like you said, people will stop watching it.
