deep blue demos
มุมมอง 181ปีที่แล้ว
deep-sea demos - a trio of original songs I made for "Rare Fish" (a short film). 🐟🎥 I spent a lot of time messing around on my guitar in between editing sessions and made about 9 songs. The melancholy of the score didn't fit the short’s sugary vibe, so I cut them out of the film, leaving only a song called “sinking of you” during the montage section. I’m still proud of them though, and so I'm st...

What Makes a Good Opening Scene?
มุมมอง 584ปีที่แล้ว
How the heck do you write a good opening scene to a film? Great filmmakers have already figured out how to get us hooked; let's learn from 'em! "The Dark Knight" with that sick Joker reveal, the sad reality-check at the beginning of "Everything Everywhere All at Once", and Noah Baumbach's perfect opening scene in "The Squid and The Whale". In this video essay, I explore what makes a good openin...

On Screenwriting: Start with Characters
มุมมอง 3072 ปีที่แล้ว
Writing screenplays can be hard. In this video, I talk about the key to starting and finishing good screenplays without getting lost in the process. During the video, I reference Frances Ha and the MCU Spiderman trilogy as examples of how good stories are birthed from fleshed-out characters. A lot of the things I talk about in the video were learnt from Anne Lamott's book, 'Bird by Bird: Some I...
Film Editing: The Hidden Art
มุมมอง 3692 ปีที่แล้ว
Video editing is an indispensable yet overlooked part of the filmmaking process. Whether you're editing movies, memes, or making videos for TH-cam, mastering the art will elevate your work to new heights. During the video, I make reference to films like Dune, C'mon C'mon, Marriage Story, and Moonlight, which all have immaculate edits. I analyze some of what goes on in the editor's mind while ma...

The Oscars have nothing on youuuu
This is incredible!!!
Thank you!
Hello Sean, this was so beautifully shot and written! Honestly never related more to a fictional character. Thanks for sharing this with the world. I do wish I could log and leave a review for this on Letterboxd--cant find it on there.
This hit too close to home 🥀
🫂

You’re truly an artist bro. Keep searching, keep asking questions through your art.
Amazing as always Sean👏🏼
Excellent work✨
Who ever directed this has a very nice interpretation
Thanks ;)
Brilliant work. I just subscribed.
glad you enjoyed it :)))
Nice piece👏🏾
All of this from a dead wasp is pretty crazy :) I Loved it very much. Your brain is nice to look into Also the immortalisation is a pretty sleek way of appeasing potentially vindictive offspring ✅
Ahhh haha I'm so glad :) And you remembered the ol wasp!
Lol this is cringe as hell
You are cringe as hell 😂
This hits a little too close to home. Amazing work Sean💖
Aw shucks... Thank you Ruth <3
This moved me to tears. Connected so deeply with me. Thank you Sean

the things that once scared you can be beautiful.👏strong
I just want to say I love you man, you’re truly special, the film is special, the shot where she lets the wasp be was beautiful. I really love the lead actress and the extra footage at the end as well! I’m a big fan man, never stop! Thank you. This made my day cause I couldn’t properly see it as the festival. Ok I’ll stop talking now
I love you too man! It always means a lot getting feedback from a fellow filmmaker. Thanks for checking it out and I can't wait for us to work together again :)

Just found a still life🫶🏿💜
Wow! What a piece
Don’t know why it took me this long to watch rare fish but it was amazing🥹🥹
Best thing I've seen in years bro I'm still in awe
Bro is too good sheesh
Thank youuuu
Bravo!👏🏾
Dope video! Approaching a screenplay philosophically is much better than just trying yet another “15 beats” structure that doesn’t have a thematic foundation.
This is so real, I need to hear this so bad
🤝🙌
I absolutely enjoyed learning from you. But I was wondering whether you could possibly analyze several successful movies in future? That might increase your viewership. You know, some of us out here, are visual learners, so you might want to keep that in mind!
Aw thanks! I'll definitely work on that for the next video essay :)
great job, man!
Thank you!
Thanks for this. It definitely provided new perspective on story telling
Aw thank you, I'm so glad you found it interesting :)
first draft is to listen to your characters. Second draft is to incorporate theme. This is easily one of the best pieces of writing advice ive ever had
I'm so hyped that it helped; good luck with writing! Go make some magic 🫵
Very insightful video, great work!
Gracias!
Thanksss
love this, and using Fichte's triad is broad and more applicable to film than the hegelian dialectic, though this seems more like a combination of the hegelian dialectic and fitche's triad with use of the aufhebung(sublimation and such). very interesting but I think the greatest stories use this in a very authentic way. It is tough to go into a story with intention of a dialectic flow
aw thanks! so glad this video found the right audience haha
fun fact from a philosophy nerd: this triad is what Karl Marx used as a framework for communism
yeah, I didn't expect to find myself on marxist blogs while doing research lol
