How can Metal Sonic be in Sonic the Fighters if Knuckles Chaotix isn't canon and Metal hasn't returned yet from the events of Sonic 4?

Sonic actually sees Blaze and vice versa in Sonic 06, but the two don't recognize each other (the "that blue hedgehog..." line was a mistranslation), meaning Sonic 06 must've taken place before Sonic Rush. Given that that's definitely the case, though, I can't give one definitive explanation as to why Blaze wouldn't have run into Gemerl at Cream's house in Sonic Rush. That could open the possibility that Sonic Advance 3 takes place after Sonic 06 & Rush, or it could be that Gemerl was just absent at the time. After all, there's no real basis to believe that Gemerl continues to stay or live with Cream & Vanilla, outside of the IDW Comics. For all we know, after the end of Advance 3, he went on to live his own life or go on his own journey

UPDATE: If the Encyclo-Speed-IA wasn't enough, the trailer for Sonic Origins confirms without a doubt that CD comes before Sonic 2.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't understand why collectable music tracks in Generations means that specific games are canon. Wouldn't the more obvious explanation be that the music tracks are literally just collectables and easter eggs for sonic fans since the game was made for the 20th anniversary of Sonic?

Ok there are a lot of problems. One of the major ones I could find is the “beginning of time” with master hand and crazy hand and all those sorts. First of all there in smash bros, smash bros isn’t canon to any universe which also includes Mario so having that in Mario’s timeline doesn’t make any sense, and I don’t even think that any of the Mario games hints that master hand and others are even canon and only appears in smash bros. Like I said smash bros isn’t canon to any universe.
