Please list all of the players and the conductor. This is fabulous! I am an OHS alumni: Louis Armstrong Award drummer from class of 1985 under the direction of John Icabone. This band makes me very proud- you all are wonderfully in the zone! This performance of Mingus is mind blowing to me and gave me chills - such a great arrangement played w passion - hats off to the bari player who channeled the spirit of our bari player from class of '84 Frank Vacin. Frank is now an established multi reed player in NYC who famously toured w John Scofield... Back then we were considered at the far fringe for listening to Mingus... the musical tastes at the time had our big band playing Basie, Nestico, and Maynard Ferguson - Weather Report's Birdland was a big hit... I am so deeply moved to hear you all taking on such deep material - This is some of the technically and emotionally more challenging music from the cannon... Impressive choice by the band director! First Roy Hargrove, now Russell Malone. This was a wonderful tribute to Russell by Bobby Broom. I want to remember Wallace Roney, Mulgrew Miller, all of the greats who left us too soon! There is a lifetime's worth of music there to enjoy and learn from for we mere mortals.
