On today's episode, I finally reveal the sunroom makeover! My wife and I, along with help from friends and family, transformed this outdated sunroom in our 1887 home and brought back the charm. We love this room and spend every morning next to the fire with our cats, pups and cups of coffee. Let us know what you think in the comments!!

In this episode, I'll show you how I spent the weekend refinishing this door from our Victorian home's sunroom. This door has been painted over ever since it was new and has never had a restoration done. I ended up counting at least 7 different layers of paint and varnish! OK, so I wanna tell you a funny story. I knew a lady uptown that had radiators like yours - which I love - and she always knew when the radiators upstairs were full because water would shoot out a little pipe on the outside of her house. I always said the house was peeing.

It's so nice to see a walkthrough where hardly anything has been touched since you bought it because it all matches in history. I was watching another TH-cam video and they said they were restoring not renovating. I'm all for that because I look at it this way if a movie company wanted to come by and do a movie your house fits because it's time appropriate not all torn up like the other house you talked about buying. Everything has a serene calming feel even the dogs. Have you ever seen the movie I'll meet you in St Louis with Judy Garland? They go around the house lighting the gasaliers. (Gas light fixtures that you turn on by little valves and light with a match.)

Add timestamp 12:27 is that a wash stand? It looks like the type they would use with a pitcher and bowl but that's very rare to see these days. What were the little ledges at the top?
These are very good questions. This bed set was left with the house and has been there since the people before us.

Really nice house, beautiful floors and woodwork, bright and move in ready. I usually find Victorian homes dark and spooky, but do not get those vibes at all with this home. Once all decorated it will be a showplace.

I actually watched your 2 years later tour first. You are fortunate that you didn't move into a neglected wreck, as your house has been well maintained. My home is 113 years old. I wouldn't move into a new home in a subdivision for anything. Old homes take plenty of love, but they also give so much love.
Good for you in maintaining the integrity of the house and not trying to make it open concept and all grey and white. I like the fact that the floors are natural and much (although not all) of the wood trim has been left unpainted. The wallpaper is indicative of the era of the house. One thing I would change is the ivy draped throughout the kitchen. It looks fake, because it is. Hugs to your beautiful dogs and cat.
I am amazed at how that beautiful home has retained her shape and character. Love that you haven't tried to remodel it to death!! Looks like the animals love it also in their comfy home...
They and we absolutely love it and only want to change the type of wallpaper in some rooms and colors. Check out my other videos where I bring back a door that's been painted for 100 years :) more to come
It looks beautiful! I've stripped paint, and I know it isn't easy. Now that you've had the practice, I'm sure you'll find other painted woodwork to attack.
absolutely!! Have someone else do it! hahaha but yes you're right, this is actually the second door I did in this room and was easier than the first.
You've made it a very cozy room! With all those windows it may be hard to heat in winter, but the fireplace takes care of that. I'm sure the dogs and cats appreciate it.
They love it and the house stays pretty warm due to it being well taken care of and has insulation under it and has glass storm windows install on the outside during winter. its a great room year round. we have added many plants in there.
I like the period furniture that you've added to the place. You've managed to blend in the new with the historic.

@@styleznu That's like asking, "Which of your children do you love the most?" My favorite item in the house is the front door, and my favorite moment in this video is the initial view of your bedroom as you entered from the living room.

It's great that there are so many Victorian features intact or restored, and that you have some fine period pieces to furnish the place! In any antique house, the most difficult room to deal with is the kitchen. Of course you need modern appliances to make it functional, but keeping the cabinetry and the flooring as period-appropriate as you can will help it blend with the rest. This is a gorgeous house, and I'm glad you are respecting its history.

The few owners this home has had have taken very good care of her. although someone did carpet the dining and living areas of the home the previous owners brought back the wood floors and now the original doors are a little short but nothing that looks bad and is a neat little part of the homes history.

What a fantastic house with so many original details - also in good shape! You are very fortunate to live here. That furniture in the last bedroom upstairs, looks like it could be original to the house. Just beautiful.
It very well maybe. no one wants to move it lol the previous owners tried to sell it to us but wanted way too much and we got lucky and they left it. :) The home has been loved and you can feel it.

Wow - whoever owned that home really kept up with it. Can't believe what really good shape the original fixtures are in...Icebox?? Wow....Fireplace mantel?? Front Mailbox?

I live in a 130 yr old house ...split into 2 apartments..I live upstairs
What you called a bedroom on the first floor has to be the dining room. That location doesnt make sense as a bedroom.
I'll have to do an update now. We are two years in and I agree that it is not a normal place for it but has been working for us. 😊
I think maybe a music room? Many older homes had them.
I would agree. Somewhere in its history, perhaps when the sunroom was added, walls were moved and rooms repurposed. Maybe it was to accommodate an elderly parent. You have a good historical research project to embark on when you have the time.
@@susanalexander7990 I love the idea of a music room, or even a family room. There seem to be enough bedrooms upstairs that this downstairs room could be repurposed.
Love the mother of pearl switches. Are those original or reproduction? The newer ones are UL listed unlike the originals
Original here. Fun fact is that this house was the first to have a telegraph in the town. Still has the switch he used to change between his office and the house. Lots of nob and tube left (non operational) for looks. We are only the 3rd family in 130+ years.
