Awesome. I found a TC-55 free at a junk sale. Looks great, missing black internal battery carrier, and plastic button surrounding cover, but plan to restore it. Irony is I can get a whole unit with everything that just needs new belts for $20-40 on ebay :P The build quality is astounding, but is it worth restoring for music listening? No Dolby etc.

Can you help me please ? On my camera both cables are damaged. The big and the little. I managed to buy the biggest one. How can i solve the problem?

I have a Sony cassette-corder TC-56 which is almost the exact same thing as a TC-55, I may need a professional to fix mine since I'm not a full on expert with vintage items! I don't think I can do it myself.

Fantastic video! This and the previous one on the TC-55. I own a TC-1000 which appears identical - both inside and out (perhaps it's regional model numbering? I'm in Japan). I've already replaced the belts - except for those of the tape counter - but haven't fully dismantled the unit for a thorough cleaning as you did. I'm impressed with the success of the supaglue solution to the tape counter belt replacement - although these are still functioning on my unit, I might now revisit it. Also, good use of electro sounds throughout - the first thing I play after a restoration of such devices is generally a mix of 'hertz heavy' electronic music. Cheers!

Really interesting and beautiful device. I have one too. But met a problem. The intake assembly needs lubrication. But I can not disassemble it. Did you ever do this operation? Lubrication of passive flywheel is not a problem, bu capstan has a gear which does not allow to take it out.

This is not the model that went to the moon it was the tc 50 and we did not go to the moon in 1967 we went to the moon on 1969.

I have one of this. Maybe I will try to repair it.

You know what they say: "A picture is worth a thousand words". Video, even more so. Thank you so much for this! You detail disassembly, cleaning and reassembly - but what about lubrication? Surely all these thousands of nylon, metal and brass parts need a squirt of oil or grease somewhere. Do we just follow the old "if it moves, grease it" rule? Will certain oils or grease harm the nylon or plastic in these babies?
