i love love LOVE xcom...I definitely wouldn't classify it as an rpg whatsoever though. Feel like letting something like that fall under the category of RPG opens the door for a lot of other things being put under that category as well that would only serve to muddy the water in regards to what is or isnt an RPG. Does xcom have rpg elements? Certainly. But I definitely wouldn't call it an RPG the same way I wouldn't call any zelda games an rpg

FUGA & Digimon Survive deserves more attention and love. And more FUGA considering that we are about to have the third entry as soon as possible.

Honestly, I wish they had kept the original soundtrack with the 3DS remaster. The soundtrack felt so grimey, futuristic, yet so FUNKY. It was great. The original OST is so good it had me setting up my phone on a tripod to play it on my Saturn and read it with translate lol.

There is the demon personality and loyalty system Some demons like to get all close and personal while others like to throw fireballs Demons like you if you give orders that match their personality and hate you if you do otherwise to the point that low loyalty demons would not follow orders or mess up your strategy Or you could make the demon get drunk in sake that shift their personality

SMTIV Apocalypse is my favorite SMT bc even small decisions matter. Also it has the most horror vibe. SMTV is good too, but overall I liked bot IV more.

Very helpful video. As a Persona player who wanted to get into SMT I could not agree more. Starting with DDS was the right call. I was there day 1 when SMT5 came out and I knew to expect less story but I did not know how much less and ended up disappointed. Tried the original Persona because I listened to videos about the story and wanted to experience it myself but the 1st person dungeon crawling is not my thing. Now after trying DDS I have been hooked. Will be completing DDS then DDS2 and after that maybe Nocturne. No matter what I actually end up doing though I at least have found my way in.

Making a list of best tactical / strategy RPGs without having played the original FFT is like making a list of the best spices without ever having tried garlic. Even if you don't agree that it is the best, your list has a huge gap in not even analyzing something that a large number of people do consider the best.

Such a great game, I still play the PS4 version all the time, even though it's only been getting "V extension" dlcs for a while. Very few rhythm games (that don't have community content) come close the sheer amount of charts in this, there's always dozens of fun and challenging Max Combos to go for, it's so addicting.

I remember starting a couple years back P4 and my friend who recommended the series to me pushing me to play P3FES first instead. I took his advice and it honestly has made my experience from 3FES to 4Golden(my favorite) to 5 even better. Despite the remake, I still recommend 3FES as a starting point if you have the means to play it. I think it’s the most artistically coherent version of P3 and really sets the tone of why it started the increasing trend of popularity with the series.

disagree completely v anilla smt V is hot garbage its characters are underdeveloped and the battle system is painfully average and lackluster. Along with the endings being all bad except for order is annoying. And the fact the amount of subplots in the game leading to nothing is ridiculous. However vengeance fixed all of these issues, and for me makes it in the top 5.

I get what you mean with SMT 4, but I do think a beginner to the series can play it and enjoy as their first entry to the series. I started using Citra a while ago and decided to look for some ROMs on their official site, and SMT 4 happened to catch my eye, so I picked it up. After a *very* rough beginning, the game eases up a bit and lets you experiment with different party comps, which I found pretty fun. That, and since wild demons have weaknesses and resistances that differ by species, I found the in-battle indicators, like a green exclamation for a weakness and a red X for null, for example, pretty useful and beginner friendly when you're just trying to get a hang of the battle system and figuring out how to best counter your enemies and fishing for those extra press turns. TD;LR: SMT 4 isn’t exactly a bad entry point if you happen to find it. I do understand the points made in the video, but I just wanted to mention that.

I was curious about this game, started to read some reviews and they were kind of harsh, but thanks to your review I'll buy it, because I'm not looking for a Disgaea, but something more accessible for me (not such a hard fan of tactical RPGs)

there is something i dont understand, at the beggining the unknown heroes fight dhaos, but in the past we take their place and they are nowhere to be found except for the mage guy, is this a paradox or what?

Nocturne...on hard mode. Blind ok no, SMT V Vengeance if you have a 3ds or can emulate it, go with SMT IV.

I am sorry, SMT IV hard? is probably one of the easiest if not the easiest one. Then again never played SMT 1 or 2 so... SMT V over nocturne, really? gameplay wise, yeah no contest but come on the story was terrible and "True neutral ending" no man, no. Not to mention this game can be seen as a direct sequel to Nocturne true demon ending

I do agree that DmC is slightly better than DMC1 not in story tho in gameplay here is my list. 6: DMC2 fucking sucks but had good ideas so I will give it more than a 2 also you don't even have to mash the shoot button with Ebony and Ivory or any of the other guns you can just hold it. 4/10 5: DMC1 it is very good but not at all the best. 8/10 4: DMC4 it is fun, but the bosses repeat themselves and it doesn't add anything new to the fights plus it is unfinished. 8/10 3: DmC devil may cry the story is mid but at least it did the gameplay right better than 1. 8.5/10 2: DMC3 it's very fun and has great combat but sometimes the camera angle sucks and some of the enemies were just too hard but hey there are ways to get around these problems. 9.9/10 1: DMC5 best combat best Dante Nero and Vergil and overall great game 10/10 and this is my opinion and I respect others' opinions.

Wtf based list I didn't know about a handful of these games and was growing tired of the same recycled lists over and over. Excited to play them, and happy to see a brand new SRPG IP that I've never tried before. Triangle Strategy and Three Houses were the last SRPGs I'd played on Switch, but wanted something different and new for PS5, and you've scratched that itch. Recently just started playing the shin megami tensei games on my hacked 3ds and have been really loving the devil survivor 1 and 2 games, both games are admittedly really hard at times with its random difficulty spikes with bosses but all and all really amazing games Ironically enough persona 5 tactica ended up bringing back a similar gameplay style to what devil survivor had, so lets hope that a devil survivor 3 can actually happen!🤟
