    I would replace your electric outlets in that location with GFCI. A ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) can help prevent electrocution, electric shocks and burns. With little kids around, then I'd also secure the tools better so they can't get loose or fall down. -- If using a chainsaw, then really should have protection pants & definitely eye protection, ear protection, boots & keep your kids away. I know that may seem like overkill, but may save your life. Personally I think it is penny wise & pound foolish to do yourself vs hire people to use chainsaws to take out trees. I've heard of too many horror stories! At least a pole saw is farther away & might be a better option for limbs. Good luck!

    I brown marrow bones in the over (3). Then I combine with cows feet (generally 2 or 3 pieces) , add the veggies. Pressure cook on high for 2 hours. The cows feet contain plenty of collagen. I can reuse them at least 3 times', also I put about a tablespoon of turmeric powder in at the start. I drink my bone broth.

    Just want to add that they make single, double, and triple layer wool covers. If you are looking for trimmer wool covers, maybe try a single layer wool cover. Good video! Also, I love flats and you can use flats with every system. I use my flats with covers and pocket diaper's, but flats and prefolds are def my favorite for ease of washing and drying. Just want to add that alot of us that use a spray bottle, spray the baby lol not the wipe. I also love to use leg warmers for my little in cloth, no other way lol. Really nice cloth diaper video!

    I have a very similar setup of Sloomb and Grovia hybrid covers, which we use with fitteds. I also like and use the cotton Grovia hybrid inserts, which work well for us. But many days there's a fitted in there instead of the intended hybrid snap-in insert. We've used them over three years and two kids and it's been awesome. I never tried out any other brands or styles. I'm pregnant with my third baby right now and it is so tempting to try out more products, but I never let myself because a) $$$ and b) I feel like I have already found the "holy grail" cloth diapering system ha.

I love that you simply use flats and covers, it’s so minimal and fuss free, I’ve switched from using a pocket Nappy system with my first and the difference I’m seeing in his skin (especially becuase he moves so much in his sleep) is INCREDIBLE! If I can put on a flat Nappy onto a one and a half year old in the dark at 3am I’m very confident that it’ll work for a newborn! Ps, now I’m binge watching your videos lol! nice overview! I was looking for “natural fiber cloth diaper” and came across your videos. we totally agree! the only thing I would add is that we use the disana covers at night since they’re so bulky, in the day we use the Puppi wool covers and they’re AMAZING. they’re super trim compared to the knit wool covers and generally fit under all of his clothes, although we live in Hawai’i so we often don’t wear clothes other than a onesie. we tried some crappy microfiber cloth diapers and my baby would get SO rashy. that’s what made us switch to wool and cotton and I could never look back. wool seems intimidating but it’s easy to keep up with once you know what you’re doing. now I just have to practice my flat folding because we used prefolds for my sons first size. I like the versatility of flats but dang getting that leg seal on a wiggly baby is a challenge 😅

    • @therooteddietitian
      @therooteddietitian 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I will have to look into the Puppi ones!! Sounds amazing for a trim will option. Yes, rashes and we had issues with the microfiber pads stinking bad too. Yes a decent leg seal is a little tricky Compared to other options! Keep testing out folds and figuring out what works for you! I’ll try to make a video on how I like to fold soon. Thanks for adding your comment 🩷☺️

    Bowyn, this is such a sweet and informative video! Thank you so much for sharing! I wish I had some of this information when our little was born. We went with disposables (and still are, she's 16 months old), we just had to many other life things on our plate when she was born and felt so very overwhelmed reading about the tons of methods/types of cloth diapers out there. Would you say that cloth diapering is easier/harder or what changes to expect as the kiddo gets older vs newborn? It feels to late to make the switch now but its crossed my mind since we spend close to $80 a month on disposables! Appreciate you taking the time to make this video, and congrats on the sweet addition to your family!

    • @therooteddietitian
      @therooteddietitian 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you so much! I am glad it was helpful. I wouldn't say more challenging per say, just different challenges because of the situation! knocking solids off takes an extra step and urine starts to get a stronger smell. At this age you can use them in conjunction with potty training AND they aren't going to the bathroom constantly! Around two we started catching some poos in the potty which made diapering easier. When my toddler was older, we moved towards summo style folding. You may have to experiment with different folds to see what you like. As he got closer to being potty trained we used the thick underwear (they have a little bit of absorbancy in there) with a wool cover. Bc accidents happen of course! Then used basic underwear and a wool cover when occasional accidents were still happening. This way he was getting used to pulling things on and off himself.AND learning that peeing makes you wet. (i think feeling wet is harder with disposables) Toddlers start to use the bathroom less frequently than a baby-- so let's say you just want to try it out, I think getting a pack of 6 or even a dozen, and one wool cover to try it out with would give you a good idea. You may have to wash every day but this gives you a chance to see if you can make it work. Worst case- you hate it and you have some on hand for emergencies if you can't get disposables. Green Mountain diaper has great options! The thing with these flat diapers is... there's so many ways to use them, I feel like you can't go wrong with a minor upfront investment. You may have to add extra absorbancy or try a different style of folding or cover, but you have options. if you made the investment in a wool cover to try out and you don't like it for diapering, you could totally use it just as an extra barrier when you transition to underwear. Even cloth diapering part-time can cut costs. I hope that helps and takes some overwhelm out. And thanks for the kind comment. :)

Every example I see involves cooling, refrigerating and then removing the fat which is, I think, unfortunate because it involves another step. As a dietician, your take on this is probably the healthiest way to go. Many thanks.

      @@seizethedayandlivehi! I’m sorry I’m seeing your comment a year later. Here is my response: It would not be bad to drink it right away. We do that as well. Beef fat is a good mix of monounsaturated and saturated fats. And the fat can be a good source of vitamins if the animal was pasture raised. The reason that I skim it off is more for texture, all the fat can make a recipe taste and feel “oily”. And if I am going to can the broth, I really prefer that the fat is removed. 😊

      Not necessarily; the goal is to get them slightly browned and not cooked when roasting. I don’t think it would impact it much, other than taking more time to cook perhaps. I would avoid frozen solid bones tho! Then when you do the broth making process they will undergo complete cooking and therefore be safe for eating.

    I also love the slimy-ness of okra :). That side dish sounds delicious, I'll have to see if I can make it taste good. What a great video! I'm glad you joined in on the challenge! It is so fun to see how everyone preserves :)

    Love the every bit challenge,here in Australia it's almost spring ,so rather the hungry gap😁 challenge. I have a lot of greens though which l enjoy before the heat comes and l can't grow the anymore...but summer brings the tomatoes and other heat lovers! Loved your video, I need to plant Tulsi ,it makes such a nice tea

      So interesting to hear what season y’all are in!! Summer is winding down and we are really close to cooler temps. Yes! Absolutely start some tulsi! It is my favorite tea right now! ☺️ it went through the entire Texas summer 3 digit temps and drought. It seems to do well in the heat. I did water it every day tho!

      @@therooteddietitian That's great to hear about the Tulsi,yes , it's hot here up to 49 degree Celsius,not sure what it is in Fahrenheit... But the good side is ,l can get ideas what to plant by watching garden from the northern hemisphere.Your okra looks really good too!

    Tomato is the easiest to start from seed. Put them in a pot with a light covering and water.

      This is so encouraging! I will try it for next spring

      @@therooteddietitian Start early. I tend to sow in January (zone 5b) for ripe tomatoes in July. Sometimes, I take a slice from a fresh tomato and put it on the soil in a pot and every seed sprouts. But I prefer seeds I saved from heritage tomatoes the year before. But tomatoes and peppers are the easiest seeds to get going.

      @@GimmeADream ok thank you for the tips!! I will just give it a shot. Seed starting indoors has always intimidated me, but I have to start somewhere.

    I had no idea you could order berkey filters from Azure. I often get the white filters from Amazon. I put them in my cart, then save fotr later to follow the price until it goes down. All thier filters seem to sell out often! Thank you

      Yes they do seem to always be sold out. This reminds me to go check and see if I can get some white ones. Thanks for your comment and thanks for the reminder!

    Hey Bowan! I have a question 🙋‍♀️ I really struggle to open the salmon cans with my regular can opener. Any tips or do you struggle to open those cans. They are slightly different than regular cans. Thanks!

    • @therooteddietitian
      @therooteddietitian 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Depending on what brand you get, sometimes you have to turn them upside to open them! The Aldi ones are like this- open it on the side that is larger even if it means opening it upside down. It’s a little wonky! But if I do that, I have no problems. Hope that helps 😊

    I’ve used insecticidal soap on my okra ants in the past, but that’s a great idea to sprinkle diatomaceous earth.

      Oh I’ve heard of that! I need to keep some on hand just in case, I’ve never used it. The DE seems to work overall, they come back a little bit so I have to reapply often. I keep a 5 pound supply of DE- so many uses! Thank you for the comment and encouragement on my garden! 😊

    Congrats on building up your homemade canning pantry! I fermented pickles for the first time last year and get so proud of myself. Unfortunately I used too much garlic and they are really strong! 😆 But it definitely feels so awesome to preserve your own food. Also, I love the thrift store too! God is good and always provides.
