Maunaloa Eruption, 2022
November 27, 2022, around 11:30pm local time, Maunaloa erupted. This footage is from the night of November 29. We could not go to the summit of Maunakea, since the road was closed due to snow.
Maunaloa's last eruption was in March, 1984. Thanks to the scientific community and to local observers, we had noted her increased seismic and "breathing" activity so we were all vigilant. We welcome her return.
Gratefully, being a shield volcano, we don't fear an aggressive debut, as in her stratovolcano sisters. We are all relieved she has decided to stroll down a path that does not threaten any communities, though at the time of uploading this video, on December 7, she may cross our main thoroughfare across the island, Saddle Rd, aka. Daniel K. Inouye Highway. She will go where she pleases and we will respect that. The mood on the island is one of celebration and joy! We are in awe to enjoy both Kilauea's current glow and Maunaloa's!
Thank you for visiting my humble channel and sharing in the wonder with me.
Note: If you get to come experience this wonder, please know it's a sacred event for Hawaiian people. As a lovely news-broadcaster recently said, this is as sacred for Hawaiians as the Vatican is for Catholics, the Temple Mount is for Jewish people, Mecca is for Muslims, etc. Please be respectful, don't litter, and be patient with the crowds.

Quote shared from a Big Island Hawaiian:
"...the performance is of Tutu Ahienaena and Tutu Aweoweo, Fire God and Goddess of Maunaloa. They arrived way b4 Pele and they formed Kilauea for Tutu Pele! This is the history of Tutu Ahienaena, Tutu Aweoweo and Tutu Pele who lives and performs on the Big Island of HawaI’i on the slopes of Maunaloa into the caldera of Kilauea in volcano. We are honored to have their presence in our midst! With deep respect we honor our God of Fire, Our Goddess of Maunaloa and Tutu Pele, Goddess of Fire. We also have Hi’iaka, Pele’s sister and Kamapua’a and the story lives within us and we share and understand the purpose and the mana of our own Hawaiian Mythology. I believe and feel the mana as a reality of the performance momentarily.. We are blessed to have the lava flow on the slopes of Maunaloa and the Snow on Mauna a Wakea(Maunakea = white mountain) (Maunaloa=long mountain)and Mt. Hu’alalai in Kona.. Take good care and we pass this knowledge and history on! Happy Holidays! Be Safe Hawai’i!! God bless our Island of Hawai’i! As Natives we respect and honor their presence! E’O"

Mauna Kea: Silverswords, Lake Waiau, the Summit, and More
มุมมอง 2402 ปีที่แล้ว
Being on Mauna Kea is always a treat! This day, we visit the Onizuka Center for International Astronomy Visitor Information Station (the "VIS"), the protected silversword area nearby, Lake Waiau, and the summit. Please be advised that regular vehicles can drive as far as the VIS but only true 4WD with low gears can proceed any further. One can park at the VIS and hike up to the summit, using th...

NYC: Liberty Island and Inside Liberty's Crown
มุมมอง 1432 ปีที่แล้ว
(Timestamps below) During our visit to NYC in September 2019, we dedicated a day to visiting Liberty Island and Ellis Island. I had been to NYC long ago-even stepping out onto the top of one of the now gone towers…how I wish I had documented that day-but missed the opportunity to visit the Statue of Liberty. This time, not only was I going to visit her, I was going to climb up to her crown, and...
Snorkeling Iceland's Silfra

I visited Iceland 🇮🇸 in September 2019. Though the experience was over too soon, time stood still for me while I drifted in the waters of a dream come true. The act of checking a bucket list item is a fine, surreal thing to do! Bringing those childhood fantasies forward into reality will forever be a most humbling and empowering moment, for me. I am aware the footage is amateurish, and cringey,...
Another Harvey Medley (and introducing new friends!)

It's been a while but here he is, Mr. Duck, himself, bringing you a smile and a chuckle! It's been a crazy year, indeed! 2020 brought us several rescue birds, two of which have become permanent members of our family, and one who's been with us for a few years, already. Naturally, Harvey does not like to share us with anyone, much less feathered peers, but everyone is settling into the family ni...
Greenland, part 1: Our Arrival and Igloo

Being in Iceland, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to visit 🇬🇱 Greenland, since the only way to get to her via airplane is from Iceland or Denmark. We took an Air Iceland Connect flight out of RKV early in the morning to Ilulissat, above the Arctic Circle on the western side of Greenland, from where it’s believed the Titanic’s iceberg originated. (time-stamps below) Ahhh… The back road of Haleakala! Shift into a lower gear and step back into another time. Rural, rugged, and resplendent, this part of Maui offers you a chance to savor in nature and tranquility with diverse climate zones, captivating scenery, troves of history, and refreshing spots to sample local flavors. So, take your time, throw up a shaka as you wait your turn to cross...
Lahaina Noon, May 2020
มุมมอง 22K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Being in Hawaii, we get to witness what we call, "Lahaina Noon," where the sun is directly overhead, leading to smooth objects without a shadow. This happens twice a year, for us: once before and once after the summer solstice. South Point Hawaii has the earliest and latest one during the year, being the southern most part of our state. It's a fun thing to remind us of our planet zooming around...
