Found you this weekend and subscribed! I am writing a memoir about my experience with parental alienation. My son is now 20. I have struggled with using a pen name or my own as it is sensitive material and want to protect him. I don't want his life on display, nor do I want the ire of his mother. Conversely, I want to be authentic and eventually use the book to do speaking and other services. Finally, with using my real name, I would have a built in audience of eager readers as well as fellow published authors. I feel stuck.
Where are you in the writing process? Are you in the early draft stages? If that's the case, worry less about writing under a pen name or not and focus on just writing the most honest, real, vulnerable, and thorough draft of your story first. Write what needs to be said FOR YOU and then revise from a place of how to make it ready for others.
@@thewriteplacerighttime thank you. Yes, I am in the early draft stages. more like several bins of journals ha.
@@pubgiant24 then worry less on what happens later and focus on the now. As I heard Elizabeth Gilbert once say, "Draft from the wound. Revise from the scar."

Love all of this. I have been feeling a call to write and have thought many of these but it's so helpful to hear I'm on the right track. Also the, "yep" when Ally lost her thought? I've literally done that exact thing. 😂 Happy to know I'm not alone!
The Write Place, Right Time, Lets make videos together!
Stumbled on this while looking up different people talking about the power of intentional action. I love all that you both are saying here. I know much of your focus is from the viewpoint as authors, but I just wanted to echo that from a mental health perspective, I can absolutely attest that intentional action is ALWAYS going to create greater impact than passively letting life do it's thing.
Thank you so much for chiming in here. You're 100% right. Intentional action is key in all aspects!
If it makes you feel better... I can't stand Glennon Doyle! I found her Love Warrior book utterly alienating in the first sentence, and it only got worse the more I learned about her.
I just found you, grateful I did. I have kept a diary for decades, and have approx 30 finished journals. I have felt forever as if I need to publish some of my writings… it’s stronger than ever before and so I searched for tips and found you.
Glad you got something out of this video. I'm sorry it took so long to respond. I just now found this comment.
Such good advice on what to look out for when signing a contract. Brilliant advice and so good to know.
Traditional, hybrid, self publishing -> different types of control and impact
Excellent: the difference between big publishing houses - selling your book to their audience vs. selling your book to your audience.
Very insightful! Thank you so much! 🎉
Thank you for the great information!

Loved this interview. ❤
This is just so fucking based

Yeah lazy
Well, they need to write a highly precise prompt in order to get the results they want. I know many people may not like this, but AI is the future. Many "celebrities" are AI. Most news is AI generated. I can also think of maybe 10+ businesses that can now be automated with higher precision from AI.
And it's more fun lol
look at it this way in a 100 years who is going to give a f**k?
Thanks so much for this! I’ve just completed my memoir but from listening to this, I need to make yet some more changes lol/smh
I have a half-day event coming up in June that you might find helpful! Let me know if you'd like details.

Ally thank you for helping me figure out which teeth I wanted to keep!
I love this!Thank you so much💝🌷
I have subscribed your TH-cam channel your channel is very good
Awesome broadcast and I love Lisa too. lol
If I write my memoir, expatriate, and then publish…. Can I get sued?
Depends on a number of things. Do you have some kind of NDA, what kinds of things would you say and about what or who, and does anything walk the line of libel or defamation.

Hi Aly & Susan - I enjoyed this interview & Susan’s story & evolution. I would like to know more about the steps taken to find a publisher & how the transition from having the book in your hands to handing it over to another “influencer?”
Once Susan knew how she wanted to proceed with publishing (choosing an indie/hybrid option), she interviewed a couple of houses that I introduced her to where I had contacts and that seemed could be good fits either energetically or that published books similar to her own. Once she selected a publisher, we then identified the editorial calendar they work within and Susan's goals for her own timeline to see what needed to be done to get her book ready by a particular date. While Susan is using a publisher, she retains all rights to her work and still has a lot of control over the book's production even after she hands over the manuscript.
I loved your chat and can't wait to read it!
