Getting started on our property southeast Iowa. Tough to get going! This and Indian grass.
Nice work. Are monarchs sturdier than more common butterflies? The ones I remember touching as a kid (not monarchs) were very easily harmed, I remember getting some of their dust on my finger. Are they not harmed at all in the tagging process, or just like a little, ignorable amount?

Actually, American lotus is not in the waterlilies family. The lotus belong to the family Nelumbonaceae, and water lilies belong to the family Nymphaeaceae. There is at least 130 million years between them.
