    dave, What was the guys name that sparred with Tyson that used to spar with bradshaw at the Schenectady YMCA? He was pretty tough. I wonder if they taped that. I'm the one that got a bloody nose just about every time we sparred. Those were the days. Pepe, Lou, and the old guy at the heavy bag before your dad took that over.

    I spent just about every summer from the late 50s to the late 60s in that park! We never had a/c so we spent a lot of time in the pool or on the swings. We used to cut through Dagostinos construction to get there. I remember spending hours on the basketball court trying to reach the rim through those metal chains, happy that at that little building they would loan out to you a basketball if you didn't have your own. I went to a record hop there once in the mid sixties but was too shy to dance. I loved riding our bikes down that ramp! We pushed my younger brother down the ramp in a little red wagon and he hit the pole at the bottom and broke his collar bone! We lived on Duane Ave. right across from the Maqua Company so the park was so close! So many good memories!

    Sorry for taking up so much space on your video comments but I just wanted to share what Im doing with your viewers :-) Wheather I reach my final goal or not isnt a concern to me, I just know I will be healthier for having tried.

    (Cont.) One last thing, drink lots of water. Its important to refresh yourself and your body with water, it helps wash out the cholesterol, fat and sugars from your system.

  • @GMPNY
    @GMPNY 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    (Cont.) For breakfast I have 1 packet of oatmeal NON-Flavored. Sprinkle on cinnamon and I use artificial sugar for taste too. Have 1 fruit or juice. Mid morning, 2 whole graham crackers. Lunch is a Tuna salad on whole wheat bread and carrot sticks or a green salad. snack before dinner is a handfull of grapes. Dinner is 1 half chicken breast, baked potato and a Green vegetable like brussel sprouts. Snack before bed can be a fruit, crackers or milk. You get used to this after doing it for a week.

  • @GMPNY
    @GMPNY 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    (Cont.) Sure there will be failures but you wont BE a failure! Your body, young or old has to adjust to what YOU are doing with it so its going to save calories which puts off the weight loss BUT your measurments change even if you arent losing weight & as I said, any movement (exercise) is a positive so just keep moving & the weight comes off or redistributes itself into muscle. There is no special diet, its all about portion control & moving. IF you just cut your intake of food in half helps.

  • @GMPNY
    @GMPNY 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    (Cont) Set small goals for yourself. Dont say "Im gonna lose 50 pounds." Because you are setting yourself up for failure. Never set more than a 5 pound loss at anytime, smaller goals are more attainable & more realistic in the moment. So what if you have to set that same goal after every 5 pounds you lose. Change it off to 3 or even just 2 pounds. You will be more motivated everytime you meet that goal because the success of it's in your mind & you will be motivated to continue again & again!

  • @GMPNY
    @GMPNY 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    (cont) There is NO FAILURE, only set backs & who cares as long as you push forward. I used to let slips or minor failures rule me & cause me to just quit. Im not in a race because its just me. Its OK if I dont lose a pound in a month because Im doing it for my health how ever long it takes. I feel today I can do this. Do ANYTHING, just dont sit around! Thats when you get bored & eat for something to do. If you feel hungry, drink a bottle of water before you eat something. Hunger pangs go away!

  • @GMPNY
    @GMPNY 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    (Cont.) If I could be any kind of encouragement to anyone especially retired or seniors, move! You have to atleast try walking. I wont say I lost weight, I will say I got rid of 17 pounds of FAT since starting approx. 6 months ago in May. I hope to continue & be able to get outside & walk more even as the weather gets worse. I broke down & bought a tread mill so I will still be able to walk in the winter, inside my home. I have a long way to go but I feel as if Im going to stick to it. (N)

  • @GMPNY
    @GMPNY 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    (Cont.) Your videos are my source of encouragement. None of my moves are anything like yours LOL BUT, your videos are the push and support to keep going. Will it last? I dont know. Is it working? YES, very much so. I lost 5 pounds 4 and a half months ago after deciding to walk with encouragement from your walking video. I have learned its all about moving even if its just as simple as walking. Im doing kicks now and a sort of shadow boxing in my livingroom. Mieleigh does it with me :-) (Next)

  • @GMPNY
    @GMPNY 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Forgot to mention, over the past 2 months I have lost 12 pounds. Portion control and movement. By movement, I mean exercise but as you know Im a 61 year old diabetic with several other health complications so my exercising I like to call movement. I follow along as best I can with your videos. Ofcourse you're always ahead LOL I do what I can, if I cant do what you are doing I march in place, I just keep moving until I can do whatever your next move is even if its not exactly what YOU do. Drugs were coming into play way before people believed it was happening. The streets began to swallow up the kids in the neighborhood or they were dieing in Viet Nam or coming back and dieing here from drugs.

  • @GMPNY
    @GMPNY 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    OMG YES! Finally LOL I couldnt remember the name LOL Yeah that was it! Remember the resturant across the street? Years ago it was a 5 and dime store the wasnt it Jeffs's or something. Creepy Dick K. used to buzz up and down the street in his 57 chevy blasting music and his horn LOL I remember the laundromat, a boy was murdered in the back parking lot by "Whimpy" Later on, Both Whimpy's kids were run over at Albany and Hulette Street. Thats around when things started to "Change."

  • @GMPNY
    @GMPNY 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    YES, I did that also. Down at the creek everyone hung out and drank and smoked cigs LOL There was a huge tree swing down there and my cousin Glenn fell from the tree and broke his pelvis, what a mess that was! Not the store by the "Other" bakery by Lincoln school, it was in the building at Brandywine and Albany. Just past Joe's Pantry Shelf.

  • @SCHENECTADYVIDEOS3
    @SCHENECTADYVIDEOS3 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I went into Cavanaughs All the time. Bought my Famous Monsters Of Filmland magazines and comic books there. Also we used the Laundromat across the street. I liked using The Submarine torpedo arcade game. I remember playing Sky Pilot on the juke box in there.

    I knew Billy Willey and all his brothers and 2 sisters. One sister was Donna. Her husband was killed in VN while she was pregnant with their first child. Very Sad. We gotta have coffee one day!

  • @SCHENECTADYVIDEOS3
    @SCHENECTADYVIDEOS3 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't recall the children's home and never knew about that one. I did go to the store up a little on Albany Street same side of St Lukes. I would buy cigarettes right out of the machine when I was 9. I smoked Belairs at the time. Remember The Creek? We spent a lot of time playing in there. right behind St Lukes School. I drank beer and smoked a lot when I was 9-10 in there. We also walked in the big sewer tunnel a bunch of us-water flowing and we would straddle trying not to get wet.

  • @GMPNY
    @GMPNY 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    My Parents and the Willey's were best of friends also with another family by the name of FETTER. Billy Fetter used to work at the corner News room of Albany Street and Brandywine next to the wine store there? Im thinking it started with a "C" the name of the news room. I knew some Purdy's, I knew a Ray Rappazardo, Villanova's and Snare's sound familiar. I only lived at Steinmetz for about a year at #112. Pat C. Has always looked familiar to me in his videos.

    my friend Timmy Slater and his brothers and sisters including Stacy who lived on the corner of Duane and Kelton. Lots of names I can't remember now. Anthony Lontrotto who lived on Hamburg St.

  • @GMPNY
    @GMPNY 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah I remember too :-) You lived up by Hersheys Ice Cream by Freihoffers Bakery, I lived between Swan & Baccus streets 2 houses down from the back of "Tough Traveler" on Albany street. White house, black trim. Its 2 houses close to one another with vacant lots now on each side. Time of my life spent in that neighborhood LOL Are you too young to remember the childrens home up by you where the St. Lukes Parking lot is but on Albany St. side?

    The Monkees, songs also Mike Nesmiths- Joanne I distinctly remember that song playing one day when I was looking at the little stone Hobbit like building across from The Pool. I liked to hang around the hill and also liked to ride my bike down the hill and also did the steps. I first went to Grout Park when I was 8 years old when my mom took me there. We lived a few houses from Mardel Hobby and Crafts on Altamont ave. then we moved to 1209 Albany street and I would ride my bike to Grout Park.

Also was considering Fifth Dimensions - Age of Aquarius- Up Up And Away In MY Beautiful Balloon I used Just A Mirage and Sugar On Sunday in the Other Grout Park Video Also Tommy James- Draggin The Line brings me back to those days.

    Ballad of the Green Berets by Barry Saddler in 66, I remember sitting by the pool and thinking of my brother in Viet Nam and feeling guilty for having fun at "OUR PARK" without him and his friends. "Im a Believer" - "Monday Monday"- "Sounds Of Silence" - "Wild Thing" - In '67 "Daydream Believer" - "Ode To Billy Joe" - "Happy Together" - "To Sir With Love" Lots of tunes and boom boxes and roller skating up and down the roadway there in the park. Tons of music memories.

  • @GMPNY
    @GMPNY 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    That was BIKES LOL There was a ramp next to the steps to the upper half of the park and those stairs which I used to prefer riding my bike DOWN coming back to the pool LOL I can remember all this like it was yesterday. Those trees and the bushes were great for hiding under and around. Remember the couple of small stone buildings on the property? Kids played in them. I remember swinging on the horse swings! The gate that swung around. It was all fun. Your music here really makes the video fun!

  • @GMPNY
    @GMPNY 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video. The music certainly brings you back to the time and day for sure, Im sitting here with a grin on my face LOL I really loved the rec building and the people who worked there. Never any fights, always looking out for the kids. The pool was so much fun. My friend and I were talking about the pool area just last night. I always wondered why it was so far from the rec hall do you know? Maybe cause of the water main to the street? I dont know? We rode our bikles most of the time anyway.
