We all have those bucket list goals that we have been aching to achieve. I have those too. One of them is to Photograph Polar Bear, Grizzlies and those huge Kodiak brown bears. Especially, Polar bears, Arctic wolves and foxes on Ellesmere Island, Canada which I would say my topmost goal. While I waited for the moment I could do it, I found an opportunity to have a similar experience. So, I jumped on it and flew to Estonia to Photograph EU Brown Bear. Here is that, Story.
On the second day, I woke up and I had to hurry up to catch the train while filming so I could be at the meeting point on time. I found this Touring company, thanks to another Photographer, offering Bird watching tours and Photography hides where everyone can stay overnight to watch the wildlife in the area.
After meeting everyone at the meeting point, we were all escorted by the NatourEst Personnel to their secret Photograph Hide deep in the forest where we got to spend the next 15 hours.
After a lot of waiting, we witnessed the first signs of life moving in the low brush on the forest floor. Then, a lot of waiting later when we were finally losing light, the moment finally came. I get to witness one of great moments of my life. It got dark and this Bear has stayed around all night. I just kept the camera way and watched it all night hoping to have a similar experience bright and early in the morning.
When we were expecting the Bear to come out again in the morning, we had a surprise visit from this guy. We thought it was a great sign that the animals were finally out before we had to leave. Until it realized it wasn’t. The Wild pig stayed around a bit too long. And I know the Bear would shy away if there is another animal in the area. That is exactly what happened. I saw the Bear coming out of the tree line and immediately it got spooked and bolted away.
The Wild Boar left after a while, and we waited until the last minute for the Bear to come out again. We had no luck after that, and we had to vacate the hide.
I am still happy to have this experience and to this day, I get goose bumps that I actually went and did it. Really happy to complete one goal from a bucket list that takes a lifetime.
