Beautiful...I just wish it had the original English titles
Poor Quality.
One of the best scenes in the History of Cinema. Underlined by this superb music. It makes me cry every time i watch it
I don't even know what I just watched.
I looked this movie up because the opening scene 2:40 is filmed in my hometown of Wadsworth NV. I recognized the street immediately. The houses are still there, and the church in the top left corner is still being used. Crazy!!
*THANKS!!* I'm looking for fictional depictions of Television from before the 1940s. This is more CGI.
Wonderful!

This is 2024. Just a century . I still enjoyed the history of railroads in the hostile lands of the west. John Ford is one of the best directors in silent age & talki. Thanks you tube .
Appropriate, using Satie's "La Belle Eccentrique" for this!
I'm afraid that your links don't work. I'd like to know what music you used for 'The Grateful Mice' from Ambrosio Films Turin.
I used an edited version of the overture of Donizetti's opera Don Pasquale.
Melhor que Marvel
Lovely.
Wonderful.
C.P. Huntington and Gov. Stanford are in this movie
There is something absurdly touching about an attempt to make an 8 minute film out of Don Quixote! If anyone at that time could have done it successfully it certainly would have been the Pathe super trio Zecca/Nonguet and Chomon!
It might be a little harsh to critique and Early Film for its effects and sets, but the Painted Wall that basically represents the Doctor's Office is a little 'Too Fake' like a High School Play Level set. Over in George Melies' films Yes there were MANY Painted sets and they resemble more elaborate theatre plays which is probably where this decision to make this 'Painted Doctor's Office' comes from. But Keep in mind: At this point we were starting to see Live Action on Location Filming in Streets, Buildings that Directors could get, and Forests. So comparing this film to Cinema of the Time this Painted Building is rather 'Low Budget' and middle of the Road.
Is this when they were kids before they turned into adults
My great grandfather was on the NYPD during this period and wore the uniform depicted. He also saved an 8 year old boy from drowning in the Hudson River off of Bloomfield Street, so the water rescue was interesting to watch. Were these scenes filmed in New York by chance?
Apparently, they needed to eat the rich back in 1905 too.
Having read the Scott Eyman biography, and other sources about the director John Ford my opinion differs a little from some of the comments. Yes. love his better pictures (he had a few mediocre films too in a very long career) as cinematic triumphs. This film is an impressive start. But the man himself? Do some reading. He is a classic example of LOVE THE ART, separate it from the artist. His cinematic art stands out in his more memorable films. Admire and respect that.
Can anyone point out where Jean Arthur is visible? Is this the woman who dies during a Cheyenne attack?
Love these early mob chase films. And first generation Keystone Bobbies
My gosh, a 1909 drone.
Drones are maneuverable. This is a ground to air missile.
You may be my preferred source of very early films. I am addicted to them. Many thanks.
I'm glad you like it. I find fascinating to study the progressive development of this new form of art.
Springfield Illinois, surrounded by mountains😉
Rent DUE
😭😭😭😭😭
Thank you for your comment. I think Union Pacific is also quite good actually. But it's a talkie made 15 years later, difficult to compare.
cecil b demille did the same sort of story in 1939 for UNION PACIFIC,but de mille was no john ford.A GREAT WESTRERN SILENT EPIC after the success of THE COVERED WAGON 1923
Thank you for posting this. Just watched the documentary, Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché. Astounding how her groundbreaking achievements in the film industry were grossly misattributed to others, and in many cases wiped out altogether from the historical record.
Best version of the tale. Georges Melies films are a wonderful, non-threatening dream.
Interesting for movie history, but yet I need to say this aged like milk on the sun. Indians are screaming savages trying to ruin civilisation and progress, main villian is deformed half-breed, heroes are pure and white of course, filmed 34 years after Wounded Knee massacre. Just wow. Did they offer KKK membership card like bonus to movie ticket?
Gorgeous film.
Words cannot express how wonderful this movie is! Truly a masterpiece directed by the great John Ford. Is is amazing!
5:23 Did not expect full-on body horror 😱
Great finds !
Thank you so much for the English subtitles! ❤

Merci beaucoup pour cette contribution.
Good film!
Gates of Paris (director René Clair), the Italian Nights of
2:47 Probably the first blooper in the history. lol
This is a masterpiece of storytelling and epic history. John Ford is masterful in his directing, as well as managing a cast of thousands; actors, horses, buffalo, Indians, cowboys, and locomotives. Everyone was on location for months in Utah, probably; through winter and summer. The final scene of the meeting of the Union and Central Pacific is perfect, exactly as it was photographed in 1869. The orchestral soundtrack is excellent. Five Stars.
Pakistan
Superb. Also the score
Wonderful vídeo.
I'm inclined to watch Lubin's work, since his film company was based in Philly. That said, themes of these early stories were pretty schmaltzy.
Epic movie.
This is a shortened version, the original was about 40 minutes long.
