My understanding was that the adamantium damaged/weakened his healing factor over time, leading to his healing factor eventually not being able to keep up. I heard there's a comic in which this was the case, but I've not read it so I don't know.

I love the MCU but what i could never get passed was the term, "OMG" To which god are they referring to? Since there is a literal god, Thor in their presence. Or when Sylvie in the Loki series says "geez" it doesn't make sense when she herself is a god. I know I'm nit picking but it doesn't make any sense from a writing standpoint
