The DIY Grunt
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 ธ.ค. 2020
Welcome to The DIY Grunt, I’m Nikko!
I was introduced to DIY as a kid, helping my parents remodel our entire house. Growing up as a military brat, this process happened several times. I love the feeling of pride and accomplishment in creating and fixing things without having to hire a professional.
In 2014, I joined the military and served as an Infantryman (affectionately known as a Grunt). After several deployments, I decided it was time to move on and focus on my passion for DIY home and car projects.
I am also a fan of classic Porsches and currently own three of them. I look forward to doing a video series on rebuilding and modifying each of them in the future.
*Disclaimer: I am strictly a DIYer. I am NOT a trained/certified professional. Everything on my channel is based on my own experiences and research. If you feel uncomfortable with a project, please seek a professional in your area for further assistance.

Comparing different tile and grout cleaners || special guest appearance
มุมมอง 2113 หลายเดือนก่อน
The tile floors in my home need a serious deep cleaning. Based on what information we know of the previous owner, we believe the floors have not had a deep cleaning in over 40 years. There are a few sections of tile that still have the original look, like under where the refrigerator was under where the washer and dryer were. The goal is to restore the rest of the tile to the same appearance. S...

He is a mechanic
Nice job....thanks for your help
I am trying to remove the same cover for my 3 door chiller. It is stuck, it is so hard to remove them. I still cant remove then
Looks great
What type of glue gun is that?
Dang dude great video you saved me alot of confusion thanks
Just found this vid. It’s odd that the add that popped up after was for an assault weapon ban petition. Especially when actual assault weapons ARE BANNED.
Thank you! Can't wait to do mine!❤ you're awesome 😊
I literally tried taking the top metal part off the shower door off and it's not coming up even though I took a box cutter and went around it. 🫤
I need to replace that bottom track…where can I find it??
Thanks you video my freezer working again
Excellent HowTo video... very informative. Thanks!
Cats are so weird, I have one that inspected my work while I fixed the soffits.
thanks. Your video helped!
Will this make my green on the deep freezer not turn off
Thank you very much for your help. One thing I've found on another how-to tutorial, is if you use rubbing alcohol on the leftover silicone, it comes off like old finger nail polish. Obviously, the more leftover the harder it is but it is well worth it
Could you tell me which backplate you used?
So well done and to the point. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much.
Roger that soldier
Just a tip, if you have only 4 wires, like my gas furnace without central air, if you have a RH wire but not a RC, plug the RH wire into the RC otherwise it will not power on. Had to trouble shoot this with my system that only had a C, RH, G and W wires.
I would've cleaned that tank out
TY I had no idea
Instructions unclear. Brought home a cat for my wife. I think I need to rewatch and take notes. 😂
I tried ended up with water everywhere. Turned off valve but water kept running 😮had to call a plumber anyway
Well done! Installing two. Subscribed. Cheers - Kirb
Very nice video. Appreciate your focus to details.
Is this a Cat video?
Thank you! I just bought one and it arrived a few days ago. Because the Dreambox 3 just came out a few weeks ago, there isn't much information on the specifics or any videos at all about assembly except yours. Im so grateful you took the time to make this video. Although you aren't a fan and wouldn't buy one yourself, I'm not a "DIY guy" like you are. I like the design of the box and the simplicity of having everything already measured, cut, planned, and with the right hardware. I have a TON of art supplies, and if I can't see them, like in the wood taboret I have, I forget they're there. It also doesn't help that not everything I have even fits in it, despite its very large size, so my supplies are spread around in different places. That just makes it worse as far as keeping track of what I have and therefore what I can use. Looking at my oil paints, pencils, pastels, watercolors, mediums, papers, canvases, and brushes puts me in a much more creative mindset. I like the clear totes for that reason - that I can see what I have, but I agree they could be made of a significantly higher quality given the price. They're not SUPER flimsy, but the they are definitely overpriced. I bought the standard tote package because I have a lot that's already in storage containers. It made sense to use them and not fork over an extra $400 for the full tote package for 17 large totes, 11 mediums, and 5 small. My one real gripe so far is that the standard package has NO TOTES at all! Theyre super useful for storing brushes because they shouldn't be stored with the bristles up. It causes water or solvent to run down into the ferrule of the brush, which weakens it over time. Just FIVE small totes are $60 and they dont aupply the tracks which are an extra $15 for ten (2 per tote, if anyone is reading this) its a whopping $75 + tax for just 5 of the smallest totes. The totes are criminally overpriced.
Personally I feel everything from the company is overpriced. I do think the box is cool from at the design perspective, the ability to close the doors and hide everything away is nice. My issue is simply for the price of the box and totes I would expect better quality. I completely understand that as someone who does not do DIY, you just want to be able to buy and quickly assemble a pre made product. I have no issue with that as there are things I will not do simply because it would take to much time or I don't feel like I could produce a better result. The dream box is a product where I may not be able to produce a better product by doing it myself but for the price of it I feel it should be better quality. At minimum I think the totes need to be better for the price or at least lower the price of the totes. Like you said five small totes for $75 is criminal. Especially considering how flimsy the plastic is, to me that just does not justify the price tag.
This may be a dumb question but I bought a barrel from someone to use as a burn barrel. When I opened it it had paint in it (bought from a roofing company) I can still smell the fumes of the paint is it dangerous to use this barrel to burn trash? If anyone can answer I would appreciate it!
Do NOT use that barrel as a burn barrel. Burning paint fumes is very toxic. When you say is has paint in it i assume you mean it has a thick layer of dried paint or still had liquid paint at the bottom of the barrel. Whichever is the case the only way to use the barrel as a burn barrel would be to remove all the paint. This could be done but the process would be messy, time consuming and require paint remover products. You would be much better off buying a brand new barrel.
Where can I get those? What is the name of it?
The lock is linked in the description
Great video! Thanks for posting!
3 per a light. Not 4. I should know because I cleaned a few car headlights already.
My pack had 8 wipes. 4 per headlight and the listing on Amazon still says 4 per light.
One potential upgrade is a motion activated light switch, just so you don’t have to fumble around with it in the event of an emergency
Incredibly helpful and well explained - thank you :)
Good morning DIY Grunt I'm Brendon they're called spindles
datt shit looks amazing how much was all that?
For epoxy and supplies probably around 150-250 if you are a first timer. Some stuff I already owned but before doing my first epoxy project, other stuff I bought after it. Most of the cost is epoxy and the top coat, and will vary based off the amount of epoxy you buy. The next two big costs are definitely the torch and the heat gun. You can get by with just one of them and my recommendation would be the heat gun. The heat gun is more versatile but having instant heat with the torch is nice but it does take more skill to avoid making a mistake with it. The rest of the supplies are pretty cheap and most are reusable. So the more projects you do the more return on your money. At this point just depending on the size of the project it probably costs me about 50-100 dollars for a new epoxy project. Most of that is the cost of the epoxy I'm using. So a bathroom vanity probably cost like 50 dollars in materials.
I say to try if you aren’t getting any worms that you noticed try grinding up your food scraps, and mix it in with some shredded cardboard and coffee grounds
No music next time or just lower it. Thanks for the info
We have had several complaints about the music in this video. We took the feedback into consideration and have made sure all future videos did not have distracting music volume levels.
Very easy
I have a large closet in my "Man Cave" room, but I'm going to make a murphy door book case for it. I like the "hidden in plain sight" aspect of it.
Did you have to replace to a solid door ?
Yes, I chucked the hollow core door and replaced it for a solid wood door.
A major note is that many, many old multi-turn water shutoff valves (seen right at the beginning here) will have corroded internally and cannot safely be operated *at all* because they'll start incurably leaking. Then you have to replace that valve too which is a bigger job than the toilet stuff. Instead, shut off the whole house water. That means open other faucets to drain / depressurize those lines; and you will get a quart of water on the floor. If you have a newer and more reliable "1/4-stop" shutoff valve then it's OK to use it. Do a search to see what a quarter-stop looks like. But if it's multi-turn and more than 5 years old, and you have hard water - don't turn the knob. I made that mistake; and btw am not the only one here warning about it.
How long does this last on the car?
It has been nearly two years now and I have seen no yellowing or issues with the headlights since I did them. I doubt it will last as long as the original manufactures coating but at this rate I would say I will probably be good for 5 years.
@ thank you, just bought some and plan to try it out.
All other products come out okay, but the cerakote is clearly the winner pun intended.
Awww, very thoughtful for the kitty!
Excellent - the cover is my biggest problem.
The issue with mine is I don’t have actual screws holding in the sides of the shower 🤦🏼♀️ they’re like these flat round things they put in back in the 60’s so I have no idea how to remove them 😢
+++👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great video
Should have went with a concealment gun closet.
