Where the road dead ends on the North Shore of Kauai is the gateway to the Na Pali coast. The turquoise lagoon at Ke’e Beach is great for swimming and snorkeling during the summer months. During your time on the beach.. take a short walk in the sand back towards Hanalei, once you are 20 yards down the beach (away from the lagoon) a sprawling view of the Na Pali Coastline will pop into view. This picture perfect back drop makes for the most memorable Kauai photos

The first section of the trail is a 2 mile (3 km) stretch from Keʻe Beach to Hanakapiai stream and beach. This section is moderately strenuous and does not require a camping permit. The next section connects Hanakapiai stream to Hanakoa Valley, six miles from the trailhead. Though it's unbelievably beautiful, there's no doubt that the Kalalau Trail can be extremely perilous at points. The trail is narrow, steep, rocky, and dotted with natural hazards ranging from strong water currents to falling rocks. Steep dropoffs into the water are especially dangerous.
