Descartes: Clear and Distinct Ideas are True (Truth Rule)
มุมมอง 303ปีที่แล้ว
#descartes #philosophy In this video, I discuss what Descartes means by "clear and distinct ideas are true" (Meditation three: “I posit as a general rule that everything I very clearly and distinctly perceive is true”). This has come to be known as the 'Truth Rule' and has had a few interpretations over the years. Here, I primarily look at Meditations and the objections, along with Principles o...
Descartes Union of Mind and Body
มุมมอง 265ปีที่แล้ว
#philosophy #descartes #books #booktube After making a clear and real distinction between mind and body, what would later become known as Cartesian dualism, in Descartes final philosophical work published in his lifetime, Passions of the Soul, he goes into detail on how these two finite substances are united. In this video, I give a short explanation on how Descartes believes this works, defini...

Descartes: Substance: Attribute/Mode
มุมมอง 237ปีที่แล้ว
#philosophy #descartes #substance In this video, we discuss how Descartes understands attribute and mode in relation to substance dualism. He divides substances into mutually exclusive categories of the thinking and the extended. Whatever thinks may be essentially a thinking substance, but not essentially extended in space, and whatever is extended is essentially extended in space but not essen...
Descartes/ Method of Doubt
มุมมอง 537ปีที่แล้ว
#philosophy #Descartes In this video, we take a look at Descartes’s method of doubt. Primarily looking at the four rules presented in part two of the Discourse on the Method. Cartesian doubt, methodic doubt, methodological [skepticism], universal doubt, systematic doubt, and hyperbolic doubt are all forms of methodological doubt that are associated with René Descartes' writings and methodology....
Talking/Talking About Philosophy
มุมมอง 303ปีที่แล้ว
The main discussion begins around 4:30 The first four minutes is explaining why I am talking about this in the first place, which, understandably, will not be of interest to most here. In this video, I discuss the difference between speaking about philosophy and speaking philosophy. We look at the history of ideas, history of philosophy, and philosophy of history within the context that is typi...
Regulative Idea (Reading from Stygian Caravan)

Apologies for the awful quality it was a rushed video done on a broken phone. But, wanted to share this quick reading from an ongoing event set up by Stygian that will continue in the spring. Next video will be the start of a short series that will begin with "The Cartesian Landscape" and lead to Sartre's reading of Husserl, Hegel and Heidegger in regard to the Other. I'm loving the new book mountain in the background! And great Q&A section. I agree with Daniel--just leave the cameras on ALL the time! Or... just livestream 😬
who's Gurthe
Thanks dude!! I just got done reading this yesterday and was having a hard time with this one. Just some of the dialog was drawn out and I would say just get to the point man. Lol but I felt he was selfish in his own way and what a strange justification of judgment. Well put.
You have such a great channel!
Love this new video!!!
What you're saying here is, for my characters, I become "a dictator on day one," when I write a story? LOL.
Your videos are always interesting and insightful. Glad to have you back on TH-cam. Peace.
I went back to watch this and saw Kafka. 😎
Outstanding work, and I’ve never heard a better presentation explaining “philosophical worldbuilding,” which is so critical yet rarely made explicit. I love how you explained the distinction between “a character changing” and “a character acting out of character,” and what functions as the basis for the intuition of an audience that “a character wouldn’t do that.” I also love the distinction between a “real, fiction character” and a “fictional, fiction character’-that was grand. Well done!
Your sarcasm is brilliant 😂
Just finished 'The Fall'. My first time reading Camus, loved it. Very thought provoking, a little above my level but going to start 'The Plague' next. Thanks for taking the time to explain it for the 'Plebeians' of the world 😂
maybe stop hitting the desk as you do your video. thump thump thump
Very interesting video, thanks for talking about it and sharing your thoughts. It is how any dialogue should be. And I felt a part of one during this video. Reading 'Notes from the Underground' by Fyodor Dostoevsky followed by 'The Fall' is a thought-provoking way to think about both books. Like any book, they can be syntopically read. But, I believe Camus drew a lot of his stylistic writing and themes from Dostoevsky. I had multiple flags while reading the fall of the terms or nuances from The Underground but used them in a way to show Camus world view.
Glad I stumbled upon both this video and their book. Love the suspenders, not being sarcastic. Great bookshelf too and thoughts. Just subbed.
Oh! Thank you so much! Though I have had to step away from the channel recently, I will be back posting, hopefully sooner than later! 😎
👍👍👍
Thank you 🙏🌸
Thank you for taking the time to listen! 😊
fascinating. that one can highlight small irrelevant questions/situations that then show the grander question/situation behind it. but was it on purpose or do we read too much into it? are they simple minded and we read over it or are they extremely clever and provoke the small minded in order to poke the bigger issue? i can only apologise that it took me two years to get here... better late than never? now to find some Trout...
And now ive read Trout and discovered something about the author I see that this video is mostly you trolling the internet. Very funny.😂
love this. rad = you
Thank you so much for checking this out! I look forward to getting back to this channel!😎
Hey Pae! Hope your 2024 is starting out strong and that you're doing amazingly well.
Great video, thank you very much , note to self(nts) watched all of it 11:31

please help me understand infinite attributes of substance in spinoza
Glad to have this video!
Oh! Thank you so much! I am glad people are still finding these and getting value from them!😊
I am here, jumping from the deconstruction video to your latest, just to say that your channel is so great!
Thank you very much! I do hope to come back soon, as I have a lot to film and put out. I have just had one thing after another going on. But, I will hopefully start posting again this month 😊

Awesome! I look forward to reading it! 🤘🏻
Just discovered your channel. Great video and looking forward to seeing the rest of them.
What I like about Camus, is his insight through his shadow, especially since he is a male, I'm fascinated by that we all know what's right but some try to just bury it deep down ❤
Absolutely, and very well said! I like that phrase, "his insight through his shadow." That captures his style of expression very well. Thank you!
3:11 by doesn’t really, I mean not at all! 😂😂😂 that was great!
This. Is. AWESOME!!!!
6:56 I hate it too 😂😂😂
I love thinking about the interaction of body and soul. Very deep and meaningful exploration.
in part i would agree with him. my body wants to eat cookies all the time, my mind knows that isnt wise. the battle goes on. seriously these videos are so hardcore! bloody optimist thinking there will be people around in a hundred years... hahaha.
i thought kilgore trout was just ostraca's old name
This is so wonderful-thank you for the support, the kind words regarding the books, for telling people about the release of “Belonging Again,” and for your outstanding thoughts on Heidegger. This was really well-articulated in exploring and navigating the question of Heidegger’s “existentialism,” and you did it in and with your legendary style, wit, and clarity. Thank you again, Pae, truly.
Ah, sorry for the late response, had a bit of a hiccup the day this video went up. But! There was so much I had to cut from this because of audio problems, but will be discussing more when I get more into Heidegger. Which means I can talk more about your work, which I think needs to be spoken more about haha. Thank you for the continuous thought provoking work! 😎
@@attention5638 Nothing to apologize for at all my friend-I’m utterly honored that you would make the video and love everything you brought out about Heidegger, who I always find infinitely fascinating. Your support of our work, and your willingness to speak on it, truly means the world. (HUGGLE)
Lovely music. Guitars in the background look gorgeous
