Glory to God.
Grace is a verb. It is the mechanism by which mercy is accomplished. Mercy is the waiver of due justice. The one having been injured (which is what justice is about - addressing injury) waives their right to recompense. That is accomplished by the action of grace. But here's the problem: A quad-omni (presence, power, perception, and compassion) being technically can't be injured by mere humanity (excepting possibly its oversized ego which we do see time and time again in the bible). A quad-omni being "could" simply forgive, but instead made it a transaction. "If you believe, then I'll give you the rewards." "If you don't bow and scrape, then you'll go to hell." That's the very definition of TRANSACTIONAL. Which is not mercy. TRUE mercy doesn't demand a payer of the injury. It doesn't recognize the injury to START WITH. And a quad-omni truly MERCIFUL entity definitely doesn't need a blood magic sacrifice.
Grace is a verb: I like this phrase and completely agree with it. That is why "God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8). God was the one who acted, He is the one who always reaches out no matter how often we turn our backs on Him. You have erred, however in your assessment of this act of mercy as transactional. You are correct: we cannot injure God. But that isn't what is being redressed by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We have broken the law, spiritually speaking, and because we have broken the law we are under the penalty of that law. Now in an earthly court of law a judge can show mercy to a defendant and he does so not because of any personal injury but because of the kindness of his own heart and the fact that he may see the potential for rehabilitation in the defendant. So it is with God. Finally, as with the earthly judge, God does not require "bowing and scraping" to show us His mercy, only an acknowledgement that we have done wrong. Consider the thief on the cross (Luke 23:39-43). He did not beg or weep uncontrollably, he simply said to Jesus "remember me". The "injury" you talked about is not an injury to God, it is an injury to ourselves. It is God who offers healing. Matthew 11:28-30 - Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
